New Holland round baler belt twisted

I was baling some hay yesterday and had a belt twist on the baler, it's twisted in the 2 places up top where you look down on it but doesn't run all the way around in a twist if that makes sense. It was caused by the belts not tracking properly, they parted in the middle between 3rd and 4th belt when I had just started a new bale on a very light swathe. I managed to pull them all back into line all okay but can't sort the twisted one. How do I turn it back over safely? As I understand it, if I lift the tailgate partway and pull the lever to slacken the belt tension I should be able to work on it, but won't be able to shut the tailgate down to do so.

What model baler? On our 658 there is a long lever on one side that pulls a short pin out a couple of inches (pin near top). Open the door, pull lever/pin, close door slowly and one of the top rollers on a lever should rest on the pin and the belts will slacken. Don’t fully close the door, lock the door, and then you can get inside and move all the belts around.

It should all be in the operators manual if you have one. Sorry for the confusing explanation!

As above would be nice to know what model, just make sure the safety latch lever on left is used or door may creep shut and if you are in there it won't be easy to get out, if belt is not tracking correctly remove door belt guide and change position of belt to an outside position not a 5min job but can be done and refit guide ..

Do yourself a favour and take the keys out if you are climbing inside the baler. You never know who might turn up and want to move the tractor.

As others said, open the door, put the pin in to slacken the tension and close the door until there's just enough room to climb in. Then the sweating starts!

It's a BR750. I have to get in the baler?

Probably similar procedure to the 658. There will be a way to take the pressure off the belts. Yes you will need to be in it, with the door almost closed and locked, baler not running, tractor turned off.

Should say in the operators manual how to release the belt pressure

On a BR lift the tail gate 3/4 of the way up on the right hand side is a little handle made of rod turn the handle and it puts a pin into the chamber under the tension arm. Lower the tail gate and the tension arm will be supported by the pun in the chamber the more you lower the gate the more stack you'll have on the belts its then possible to move/untwist the belts. Once finished raise the tailgate until the tension arm is off the pin and taking the tension of the belts, turn the little handle back, shut the gate and away you go.

Thanks. It sounds straightforward enough. How do I adjust the roller at the back that helps the belts track properly? I slackened it off in the field in the vain hope that it would help me straighten the belts. I think I need to get it back to where it was and start again.

It's best done while the belts are slack otherwise once the bolts are slack your fighting against the tension on the belts when moving it.

Do you have a book if not I do and can take a pic of any bits you want.

Yes I have a book now but I can't find any clear instructions on how to do it, only what the thing is for.
