RPM Digital display is all over the place even though tractor operating ok. What is causing this please?

I thought the TM got it's RPM from the alternator strangely enough, I maybe wrong but remember having issues with our TM150. Am sure someone will know.

My 7840 gets its its rpm from somewhere like that

My 8340s dash did the same a week or so ago, but its given up now and just reads 0rpm. Does yours fluctuate just the engine rpm, or is it pto speed aswell. Mine did both, and also the hours clock stopped counting. I'd say it's most likely a fault with the dash, but cant be sure.

40 ser gets signal from alternator, for rpm and pto, same...check wiring terminals on alternator...will pto stay in when engaged..

TS 115 had the PTO dropping out new alternator sorted it.

I’ll check the wiring to the alternator tomorrow. Is there a way of testing the alternator? If the alternator is on it’s way out what make is good? How much ££££?

It had been ok for 4 days but coming back to it this evening it isn’t showing any RPM and I can’t lift the plough up and down. Help

Def the alternator as mine did exactly the same, not a clue re part number afraid

It’s working perfectly this morn, might have to wait until it rains before fixing. Why is it ok sometimes?

Yup and then the linkage will stop completely. I was ploughing when mine went, had to unhitch the plough and leave it.

Pto wont work either if engine speed isnt correctly picked up by controller
