New Holland tm spool valves

Hello,

This is just a quick one to see if anyone else has had issues with the hydraulic spools on a new Holland tm. We had been told a few years ago when the first one started to fail that a new block was about a thousand pounds and that the refurbishment kits weren't worth bothering with. These are mechanical spools and not electronic.

My question is whether anyone has used the refurbishment kit or indeed know of any companies refurbishing them etc. As unfortunately another valve has started to fail and whereas we were able to drop down to 3 from 4 valves in the past ideally with new equipment we could so with all 4 working nowadays.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
Stephen

I haven't heard of a slice causing issues before it sounds like you have a cable issue to me. First thing to check is if the cable is slipping in the alloy housing it clamps to on the back of spool block. Make sure these clamps are tight, don't over tighten them though or they will strip the thread or snap. If they still slip you can centre punch the cable so it clamps even tighter. If this still doesn't cure the problem it will be the cable stretching or damaged, it comes complete with the handle in the cab so a bit fiddly to change out. We've had 2 Tm's with the above issues in the past, usually caused by the heat from the back end.

I have known one spool not work until another unused one is pressured up while still holding it on, the problem seemed to go away on its own... a bit of dirt sticking???

If you do what cosmagedon says and it does not cure it, take the cover with the two allen key head bolts off that is just above where you plug the hydraulic pipe in, these can sometimes have oil in them which stops them working properly. We have had one where the spring in there broke and damaged the detents so didnt go in to float and neutral properly, so got the complete spring and detent part that goes in there and that cured it.

Thanks for the quick replies. Will try what cosmagedon suggests otherwise will have a go with what yelrom says. We have one of the spools blanked off by our dealer as they said that it was the block and it wasn't worth trying the refurbishment kit. Will go through the suggestions and go from there but if anyone else has any ideas I would be grateful to hear them.

Thanks again guys

Dealer told me it was the slice when ours was playing up. I insisted we fiddled with cable settings first.

i was right.

Never tried this and it's third hand information so treat with caution!
Any problems I had with TM spools were always cable related but I was told that if adjusting/tightening/replacing the cables didn't solve the problem to take the spool out of the housing and polish it in a lathe.

Hello.
Maybe someone has a repair manual for New Holland T5060 2009? In electronic form? Our T5060 break down transmission.

Thanks

That will have been something to do with the load sensing, I'm sure there's a small check valve between the slices and it could have been sticking. But those are the best types of fixes to be fair!

I appreciate this is now an old thread but just trying to get some info. Got a Massey 6480 but my understanding is they share the same Bosch sb23 spool block. It lost the locking in on the spool levers, so I removed the alloy cover on the back with the 2 Allen keys had a fiddle about and put the cover back on. Now the spool move easily on the lever but it won’t correctly work on the lower side (negative I’d call it) of the spool. It will work on the positive side but when going to negative it’s almost as though it can’t get the oil back into the block on the returning side. Got it on a round baker with a pressure gauge on and that’s going way past the red (which it doesn’t usually) when trying to close the door, and the door just won’t lower. I have to put it in another spool to get it to come down. I played around with it yesterday had the end cap on and off around 12 times trying to see if I’d missed anything but all seems ok. Am I missing something or have a knackered the slice when I’ve been moving the lever with cap removed and no spring pressure? I’m at a bit of a loss really.
