New Holland TM155

Hi folks, looking for opinions on the TM155, to me they seem like they could be a future classic, and they will hold or increase in value? I’m thinking of buying one ( I’m in Ireland ), for my own light work, it would have a very easy life with me and would be very well looked after, I think they are a smashing tractor. €40,000 mark here for a clean one with good hours. If ppl in the know feel like they would be a good one to have in the future then I’d probably go for one? Any thoughts appreciated!

I Posted this on another thread;

This sold for nearly £45k, so has gone up since new by around £14k, so if you can find one, looks like they are the new "county"

Cheap 155s are rough dogs nowadays, and the early ones were not perfect, mine looked a minter but by the end I was glad it was going.

A nice T6090 be the next future classic I reckon. And is a nicer place to spend a day imo

If you want a appreciating classic TM buy a late 175/190 post 05 plate or if you want something that’s bullet proof a TM135 is the way to go.

would a 175/190 keep going to drive of the lorry. owned a 175 for three years of hell. friend had two 190 that were worse. still got 07 plate 155 from new 10k hrs.

I always thought the reliability of tm155s was hampered by many of them being wound to the moon.
I had a mxm 120 (red tm), i always thought it did a job, nothing more . It was reasonably reliable.
I think a t6080 or puma 155 would be a better bet
I went the opposite way, we had an 08 puma 155. It was a good machine and didn’t give a lot of grief in its 10,000hrs, but I was wary of the electrics and by the time it went, it all felt a bit slack. Plus the Puma always felt constipated power-wise, assumed at the time it was to do with the new emissions legislation which the TMs predated.

Replaced puma with 2nd hand 08 plate tm155, which is more or less the same tractor underneath, but more basic, -mechanical spools, simple a/c and I actually prefer the TM cab to the puma/t6000/t7000 style, more airy.

TM approaching 10,000hrs now and had to spend a fair bit on the pc gearbox, which was disappointing, but hopefully stands in good stead for several years ahead yet.

Got a very basic spec 140 too which gets no love whatsoever but has been amazingly good considering. It’s had a replacement front hub, 2 sets of brakes and apart from the air seat breaking last year I can’t think of anything else major other than the spool connectors.

We had 11 plate puma 155 and 03 plate TM155 at the same time, on the road there was nothing in it power wise TM maybe had a slight edge but not a lot. PTO work the puma was better at hanging on whereas although the TM kept pulling the revs would drop a lot to start with.

reliability wise the TM was an early 155 right when the CNH merger happened. I believe quality control went out the window for a while at Basildon around that time and it wasn’t a patch on our TM135 in that respect.

TM155 was replaced with a T7.210 it quite easily kicks the puma 155s arse.

Be worth getting the cylinder head off for a rebuild, their rather prone to dropping valves at those hrs.

Trouble is most if not all TMs are "re-mapped" often quite seriously.

Know of more than one lad who on being very disappointed with their new T210 or T220 etc that have discovered that their old TM were well on the way to 200 old style proper horses.

My TM140 was fiddled with before I got it, goes very very well, lovely growl on her when pulled down a bit, but christ the backend runs hot! Reckon you'd fry an egg on the little back window before it run onto the mat when she's on the one pass. Leaks oil like a seive too, but no wonder, crack a oil pipe open and the rubber O rings come out cooked like bakelite!! :D:D:D
Good comfy usable tractor, good place to spend a day.
