New Holland TS SL clutch calibration

We’ve got 2 New Holland TS SL Tractors, both need their clutches calibrating. According to the manual should be done every 12 months, ours haven’t been done for years and are now both quite fierce. Question is how difficult is it to do, does it have to be done by a New Holland dealer and what sort of cost are we looking at?

On the SL dual power, it’s a bit of a nightmare to calibrate, the tractors have to be set at a certain temp or they won’t calibrate. If they have not been done for a long time, all the fill times would need setting. If It was me, looking at your location, I would get the Old Ravenhill team now working for Battlefield Machinery to come out and set it up. The last time I did one you need a data book / workshop manual to understand all the error codes and the diagnostic plug/tool to go through each mode. By the way the tractor hydraulic oil has to be pretty dam warm too, to allow the tractor to calibrate at the right temp

Normal calibration on sl dual power is quite easy. needs To be done when the back end oil is hot, around 55 degrees I think. which is not hard to do on a 40 series. A 10 minute drive flat out should suffice. I think the procedure is as follows. Stop the engine, handbrake on. hold in the two buttons on the gear lever and start the engine. The dash should now say cal. Set the revs to 1200rpm, select high 1st and forward on the shuttle. Let the clutch out and the tractor shouldn’t move. ensure ac is off if you have it. Press and hold the low dp button. The numbers on the dash should start to rise. the computer gradually applies pressure to the clutch packs until they start to bite, signalled by the engine rpm dropping. When the low has finished the numbers will stop going up. Do the same with the high button. When finished, lower revs and turn off engine. Restart as normal and you Should have a better clutch and smoother change between high and low. If still jumpy, do as above and contact your local mechanic dealer to play with the fill times.
