New Holland Turbo

I'm wondering has anyone on here got experience adding a turbo to a new Holland 60 series or similar. I have an 8260 which is a straight 6 cylinder and I'm thinking of fitting a turbo.

I'm not fitting it looking to create a massive hp difference or anything, just to leave the tractor slightly more torquey and to clean the exhaust smoke up a bit.

Normally I would say to turbo these engines,you should really be changing the pistons to the proper turbo versions as well but the general opinion is that the powerstar/genesis can cope without the change. There are plenty of 7840,8240 and TS 115s with just the blower added and a tweak of the fuel pump and they still go on and on. Regular servicing included of course.Can't see the 60 series being any different.

Having owned 2 trouble free 40 series 6cyl turbo converted power star engined tractors i can 2nd the above.

Used to see quite a few 8160's new with turbos, don't ever recall anyone having any real problems local, was a lot of tm115's torboed about here when lads wanted a bit more weight than the ts115 with a blower on it

I know of quite a few 78/8240's and ts115 turbo'd. Never heard any horror stories either. Tractor won't b worked too hard and will be serviced regularly. I think I should get away ok.

And I'm sure they are all still going trouble free. Would like to see close up pics of a turbo'd 81/8260. Just to see what the set up is for pipework etc and if standard air box and exhaust was used or upgraded to 8360 spec. Also to see where oil feed and returns came from.

Exhaust box will be smaller, oil feed is on oil filter housing-just above it IIRC and return will be below the filter slightly forward into the bloc. It won't have an intercooler like the TMs so intake pipework should be quite straight forward

Early TMs like the 135 and 150 didn't have intercoolers either.

Yes you will not regret it as long as you dont go silly with the horsepower. It will lug much better and those powerstar engines have Proven to bedste among the best ever made.

If your not changing the pistons,change the oil at lower hour intervals ,and it should be fine.

No, just judging by TM and TS setup etc plus we have some powerstar and genesis engines on stands at the college.

Yea I know what u mean. Pretty similar set up to early TM's. Doesn't look like a big job. Just getting all the fittings etc is the biggest problem. A kit of a damaged TM wud b the easiest I wreckon.

I think lads are confusing the engine oil heat exchanger with an air to imtercooler the only thing you will be missing is a diafram booster for fuel pump

I think they may be relating to the later tm 130/140 etc which have an intercooler. What does the diaphragm to fuel pump do?

When the turbo supplies boost ther I a small pipe going to the fuel pump which activates the boost more diesel when needed

Makes sense. Getting the turbo is easy, the rest of the kit not so easy. [emoji85]
