If they want to charge top money, they need to improve some of the components they use, especially in cab switches and stuff. Other than that, I was very impressed by the road manners of the demo I had.

They are taking the pee really. How much would that tractor cost in parts and to assemble? I know there is R&D costs etc. It's the same with all brands of tractors though.

The top model 2170 in the range that it replaces cost 80k so a hefty price increase.

The problem is JCB sell very very few tractors compared to JD or AGCO or CNH.
JCB probably sell the as many units in 20 years as the big players do in 5. They can either spend lots more per unit on R+D and release a new model every 5 years like the big players, or let the models have a longer lifespan to try and minimise R+D cost. I think I'm right in saying JCB have taken the latter - the 2000 series has been about for how many years??
This then has the downside of needing a MAJOR redesign to make it look modern - park a 2170 alonside other machines and it feels like going back in time inside. The major redesign costs more - so prices have to go up.

It's all based on production volume - if there was a market for as many Fastracs as there are truck tractor units I bet they'd be cheaper!
