Christ if all they are is a digital weigh cell and a screen surely you can fit them to any old scale?

i will investigate for mine never realised it was so simple!

with respect to the above pic that looks like something i will make to fit on my scales, its just d link and some bits of metal welded up to fit the electronic weigh cell and screen to a std lamb weigh?

The conversion kits just replace the bouncy spring balance with an ‘S’ cell (like in that photo), which connects to whichever electronic indicator you choose to mount. It really is a simple, and effective, conversion.👍

Would something like this work ok, with a lamb bouncing around in the crate? (Instead of a spring balance dial)

i cant see why not

i got some pallet scales off eBay for around £400 (not Chinese, well could be, but from a proper scale supplier) there actually beams so you can move them and tare off the static weight, (weighed trailers and all sorts)

they are extremely accurate and if you flip them over are just std weigh cells linked to a screen.

I've used their conversation on my current crate, it's the crate itself that's letting me down, I've emailed them about their crate, but no reply 😅
Ah i see ,your weigh head etc is ok? well then cheapest option is to get a new IAE scales one (like above) and swop your weigh cell and head over to it with a bit of a mod.
i think i right in saying Bridgemans have got a few in stock at about 675 (you wont get anything anywhere near as good value second hand) ts a good solid well balanced set for accurate weighing with easy to get hold of and open and shut gates.

Do Pharmweigh still make their basic electronic open topped weigh crate, always thought they were about as good as it gets.

Certainly available I’d have thought, but no idea on price. I suspect they’d be a bit dearer than tin can IAE kit though…

@Victor Lovedale might comment, not that I’m sure I’ve seen him post on here in recent years but I suspect he ‘lurks’.

Yeah I’m looking as well. I’m thinking prattley 3 way manual draft. Looks nice and portable but waiting on a new round of grants ideally. Would love a auto draft but seem silly money
Just got one and I love it, the gates are so smooth and lambs and ewes run well though it. We're using tru test screen and wand and it works a dream. Reasonably light to haul around as well.

Farming in Protected Landscapes, it's a new one only covering certain areas, generally AONB's. It needs to be a bit of a fluffy project, i'd say it's the post-Brexit replacement for Leader.

edit: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/funding-for-farmers-in-protected-landscapes

Interesting Have they moved some of the AONB boundaries.. I always though we were outside of it but seems we are now in one! Havent dug too deep but I have yet to find what scales would come under. "Farm business resiliance" perhaps? Could I get funding to renew a tractor under the guise of "reduced carbon emissions" perhaps... the old one emits lots of carbon

Weigh head seems good, I'm think old weigher is either bent or binding somewhere, @Allied Weighing have helped me recalibrate a few times (spot on customer service)

Seen a Bateman mechanical one in a nearby wynnstay's for decent money, might just have to adapt a new one 🤷‍♂️

I've also seen @fowrass makes a digital 3 way shed for around the £1k mark, if anybody has experience of one?

only things i see not so good in practical use with that bateman is that the door levers need to be 2 hits or 2handed to open iyswim.
and the top of the crate (quite apart from the necessary obstruction that the weigh bit needs) has cross bars for strenghthening rather than the single long ways one on the iae crate which allows a nice long enough access with yer arm to handle lambs back.

could be the problem with your old one is the crate itself doesn't balance when its empty even , let alone when the animals in there.
even with parallell /tie bars set up right the crate needs to be balanced pretty well at the start if its only got one weigh cell unit to hang and read off.

Our application has only just gone in wont hear for a month or so, the scales and a few other bits of kit are under the 'people' section, education/ engagement, it does all seem rather broad as to what is eligible and what isn't, best thing is run ideas past them first, our AONB unit have been very helpful so far.

Iv a trutest ERS reader which only reads half the Tags, double reads the other half and is generally crap and I want too upgrade too either a pannel reader for my race or a decent stick reader that is capable of syncing too an app on my phone… what would I be looking at?

Hey, So if you go to this website >> Our Scrappage Scheme and complete the process it will let you know how much you can get off an EID reader, our software, or our weigh head. This cold is used with a conversation kit on a spring balance scale if required.

Sound like you would get £100 for an EID reader :), and maybe the software.

Get in touch anytime.

Thanks

Our full panel system cabldd and ready to plug in to trutest eziweight7i including battery and charger is £999. Anyone buying a weigh crate and wanting to add any form of eid reader should consider avoiding crate with wire mesh sides. Eid readers won't work through wire mesh. Smaller flocks, say less than 500 ewes can use the agrident AWR300 reader as a substitute for a panel. Hang on outside of crate. Benefit is that the agrident allows you do record the full range of management events on the reader and had a comprehensive database to show you to look up animal data on the screen. Awr300 range is up to 11 perhaps 12 inches. Panel reader range of close to 24 inches. But range is also dependent upon the quality of the eid tag.poor quality tags can be few inches less read distance compared to good quality eid tags. There's a very significant difference between tags.

I am sure they are still making them. We move ours around a lot and they get a lot of abuse yet are still in excellent working order as they are made of stainless steel and not aluminium. Yes they are a bit heavier but as we probably put through over 20k lambs every season plus some ewes it has stood the test of time.
Only replacements has been the occasional cable to the weigh head which has probably got squashed when being moved.
