New Law re tyres

Just had a update from insurance co to say new law has come in banning tyres over 10 years old to be fitted to steering axles of coaches, HGV and mini busses and rear single tyres on mini buses . Apparently , tyres are meant to be date stamped and Vosa [or what they are called now] have started to do roadside checks and issuing fines and notices to this effect . Just thought it might not be known about , ie I had heard nothing .

I know a one man band Trucker who bought his tyres and kept them 5 years before he fitted them. Reckoned they got much harder and lasted much longer.
Then he bought his local Tyre Company. But I expect he hoped none of his customers used the same trick!

Have x army tyres stamped 1945 on trailer still got loads of tread
Yes, but they don't put the good stuff in them like they used to:sick: I've re used red tubes occasionally, they seem to last just fine. Don't know when they would have been made.

Actually, you'd think in 1945 they would have been getting to the bottom of the barrel for materials, and not building for a long tread life.

In the US, the theory is that you age the tractor tires a year. Old stock new tires are not recommended, nor anything over ten years old. Couldn't tell you the law though.

The best part of it all is that if you have a 20 year old casing and get it recapped then it is viewed as new when they date stamp it. Absolute bonkers the whole thinking.

can't understand why cars are not included as I had a customer come in wanting some part worn tyres for her car,I don't do part warns so she went into town and ended up getting some,10 miles down the motorway 1 blew, rolled car (with family in) and one got killed.
tyres were found to be out of date and lad that sold them got prison.

Bought a 15 plate car recently, one tyre is an 07!! Where the hell that one came from!!!

I use a lorry for my hobby of match ploughing so limited mileage and have recently fitted two new front tyres for the test. Hoped to get the next ten years out of them but when you check the dates their life is nearly half expired. Surely if legislation requires tyres to have a limited shelf life there should also be legislation in place to limit the age of the tyre at the point of sale. Hauliers are OK because they wear their tyres out but the limited mileage done by the likes of me makes the tyre cost per mile travelled extortionate.

got a mate quite high up at mercedes.
they have land where there are hundreds if not thousands of mercs stored, some not registered and some that are that could be 2 or 3 years old with plates on that were registered as sold (to the dealer) so they get a higher market share!!!!!!!

Well it’s not an original tyre with 100k on the clock!! Two 2020 tyres, one 2017 and this rouge 07 one!!!
