New Mccormick Tractors

We used to have a Landini legend 120,cheap and basic.

Issues are reputations are built from tractors working over the last 20 years.

If you are in for the long haul then the tractors you build today have to be designed correctly, have quality components and be easy to repair.

It still sticks in my mind where there were cheap either nylon bushes or o rings which were manufactured incorrectly and gave massive issues with some McCormick models.

One days production of one bad batch of components can destroy a reputation and put customers off for 20 years.

Valtra had a circlip issue recently and had to recall quite a few tractors with major surgery on the gearbox.

Its the long game.
Yes the early Mccormicks definitely had some issues. Once they purchased the Doncaster plant and the old Case models I think they cheapened some parts, definitely transmissions, to try and gain an edge over the Cases. It worked because lots were sold and prices were very keen. However long term it's left them with a legacy as a cheap brand with quality issues. An imagine it's hard to overthrow despite the huge improvements made.

In these times of soil protection maybe getting into the tracklayer niche might be worthwhile? Something basic ish on tracks and take on challenger which seem to have lost their way with reliability with the current models(?) i don’t know what engines you use but if they’re well known and you put a ZF or similar gearbox behind it….
In the new tier V models it's a Yanmar is the x2 & x3, Kohler in x4 and FPT in everything else.

Dont take this as criticism as i appreciate u comin on here stickin ur head above the radar where u can often get shot at, but why is there not more product promotion backed by headquaters. If mccorrmick is wantin more sales why is there not more demos bein put out, more dealer open nights as farmers love free tea and a catch up, more facebook competitions where u can win hats, bodywarmers and factory tours etc etc, more deals being available like stockman tractor with free loader upgrade or large tractor with free gps, attractive finance and hire packages etc etc and finally more local farmers newspaper adverts. They have invested big bucks in product development and have imho thier best tractors to date but the dealers need help to get them on the ground
I think some of this is the downside of smaller dealers. We're just not into marketing like the big boys. Something we need to address. But yes all the above ideas are things we need to look at. Though there are attractive finance and hire options. Plus they recently did a free loader upgrade promotion. Again dealers maybe not so good at advertising this.

What happened McCormick years ago?
They were in production probably 100 year ago, then disappeared and resurfaced 20 year ago?
Bought by Case IH. Then when Case and New Holland merged the monopolies comity made then sell off the Mccormick name. This was purchased by Agri Argo. Production initially undertaken in ex Case Doncaster works before being moved to Italy.

The latest ones look rather good, The lads at Grassmen had one recently and lent it out to quite a few farms, all gave positive responses. There were a pair of black 7624 (240hp) working on the maize harvest locally, seemed to be going well and quite a compact size too when sat next to a JD 6215R.

Got to admit I prefer the Metallic Red, so so on the black rims options for the Metallic Red.

Quite a few brands have FPT engines and ZF transmissions, these surely have a good reputation?

So where does it go wrong with these brands? And yes I would buy a McCormick if the price was right!

So when caseih bought them, did the McCormick name end, until cnh sold it?

Any offers and upgrades should be well publicised. Should the importer not be handlin that side of things as u have said some of the dealers are smaller scale and couldnt justify it mabe

Afaik it wasnt case that bought them it was to do with ih back in the day and then tenneco bought ih out creating case ih until tenneco sold case ih and nh did away with certain case models and just made pink fords instead

TBH it’s not entirely fair to expect McCormick or Landini to be outrageously competitive on price before being considered a credible alternative. I have no figures to support the claim but I’d imagine John Deere would spend more money on marketing and branding than McCormick could muster in sales output.

I think part of the issue is its very chicken and egg trying to break into the market in a significant way. To increase market share prices need to be competitive. To have competitive prices you need economies of scale and the ability to sometimes throw money at a deal. All of which is difficult with a small market share.

Did Case not just become a Fiat the way a Ford did, and then the Case Mx etc became a McCormick?
Yes essentially the case became a fait in the mxm range but the mxu had the dual power and sle tranny options brought forward from ford and the larger blue tractors was a case magnum. Imho cnh could have made a hell of a better tractor than they did as they had the advantage of havin the copyrights to case, fait, ford and international designs but they didnt always choose the best parts to keep producing
