Had them on the phone the other day telling me it was time to renew your contract and we have some great deals on at the moment etc
etc etc.

Except the deals they were offering seem crap so started looking.
Question is I've always had a business tariff + vat and claim that back but is it possible/ok to claim the vat back on a personal contract?

Hi bravheart,

You can only claim VAT on the business proportion of any calls. If the mobile is 100% private, if you had a business mobile for example, then no VAT could be claimed. If the phone was for say 50% business calls then you can claim 50% of the VAT.

HMRC link may be of interest:

Interesting link and the % business etc. How do HMRC split it if you have unlimited calls and perhaps calling the wife for a hand?
My question was more if I had a domestic/personal contract could any of it be claimed back or would the supplier even issue a proper invoice with vat shown separately etc.

I claim for the whole of my mobile purchase and sim every time. Sim is only £8 month or so and I break a mobile about once every year/ 18 months.

Absolutely essential tool for the business so it all gets claimed. Emails/ prices/ advice/ calls/ texts/ market info all on the phone and its probably 90% business or more
I would agree with this and use mine much the same but according to the link you should only claim 90% back. No word of data use at all and that is an ever increasing part of the phone use and monthly price.
