If you read the link, he says...

"I am keen to discuss the issues around equivalence to imported grains and to explore how inspection can be made less challenging for growers.”

Good start. Let's hope Kit can find a sensible solution (y)

Crop assurance is vital to the entire food chain. (Except imports)
I look forward to working with customers to understand their requirements. Interesting who he thinks his customers are, the farmers who pay the ridiculous tractor or the processing and retail sector who pay the NFU (whose payroll he also seems to be on)?

Does he know that if put to a democratic vote then 98% of farmers want RT tickbox to go.
How can someone in their right mind join this scam

Let’s see what he’s got to say, but I reckon it will be first if any incoming chairman shrinks or prunes back the empire he presides over, which is what is desperately needed.

Looks very proactive and listening.

Problem is, if something like Gatekeeper was accepted for UK grain, then RT stand to lose lots of members. RT won't want that. Hence why we've got the unhappy farmers situation.

There might be potential solutions. It's working out what to do for the best, but best for farmers might not be best for RT or processors.

It's currently unfair and why NFU have been losing members (NFU's support and ownership of RT).

Yes one thing crop assurance is palpably not is vital.

It may be nice to have for the buyers (for free) and it may be nice for Red Tractor to occassionaly claim to have thwarted bse and foot and mouth or something, but one thing it evidently is not is vital. If it were it would be required from every food product and it would be a label on every food product for free without Red Tractor charging for the privelege.

red tractor are a private company largely funded by farmers. They need to find a way to reward us financially for our membership.

The fact they think there the saviour of British ag is a very misguided and short sighted view. The management are lazy and to date have been very unwilling to respond to there paying members. a massive overhaul is required and the bal is firmly in there court.

If there unable to do that there not relevant to us or our industry, and need to shut up shop.

hopefully the appointment of Mr Papworth will be a marked improvement but he needs to get properly stuck in and find answers to the very awkward and valid questions that have been asked by us all over the last 18 months.

Let's give the man a chance. He hasn't even started yet. There's just a chance that things are about to change so let's see if they do.

It's difficult to see why someone would want this job without a clear determination to improve things for their customers, us who pay their wages.

The problem is that without a captive market, they don't have a business.

I think we should lay off the criticism until he has had a chance to prove himself. We could be pleasantly surprised.

I think he probably ha a good understanding of the main issues.

On the record now that I’ll predict nothing changes. Might be some creativity initially then nothing because of the corrupt gravy train of U.K. agriculture. He might as well resign today to be quite honest.

Yeah, I agree too.
The whole setup is geared towards the needs of the processors and retailers and nothing, no matter how well meaning and sincere Kit is, is going to change that.
Full marks to him for posting on here though, but I have a feeling he will be trying to defend the indefensible.

Sadly I agree with you.
Plenty of puff and blow for a few months, then it will go quiet and things will stay as they are.
Yup, did with Bradshaw re import standards, Smith just blocked anyone and everyone he cam into contact with, I fear Lee is right, lots of fanfare and gusto but then a flacid failure and same old same old!

He has now from reading the other active thread. Hopefully Kit will be able to push the case for Farming and Farmers...
