Even more head scratching and problem solving for us to deal with. Wild flowers and schemes are looking more attractive than trying to farm. Agriculture is becoming a dirty word so it seems but everybody needs to eat.

Surely this will just increase the amount of bagged P and K used in arable situations who just wont bother using muck now? EA have ballsed up here by allowing planning for so many chicken sheds in small areas yet its going to be the whole agricultural industry that suffers. Looks like there are derogations so the water authorities will be fine regarding sewage sludge etc so thats no surprise.

Can you show me the text from rb209 that shows a cover crop needs n.
They are designed for capturing soil n .

Nope rb209 does not have an N need until the spring for winter oats.

You might just get away with 30 kg ha n with an autumn reseed but it wouldn't be able to be a cover crop it would have to be planned to be harvested or grazed in the spring

Ok I've read this twice. As far as I understand it, at present people are spreading when they shouldn't, according to those 2018 regulations that I had never come across. This new form basically ALLOWS them to do it as long as it is within these guidelines. Am I missing something here?

"Normally, under regulation 4(1)(a) Reduction and Prevention of Agricultural Diffuse Pollution (England) Regulations 2018, when you apply organic manure to agricultural land, the application must be planned so that it does not either:

• exceed the needs of the soil or crop on that land
• give rise to a significant risk of agricultural diffuse pollution

If you follow the conditions in this RPS, you can have a plan to apply organic manure to agricultural land that may exceed the needs of the soil or crop on that land, as long as it does not cause pollution."

There are also 4 other conditions and one of them is there is no available storage on farm. So for dairy farmers derogation will not be available until mid winter when it will be to wet.
I think it's more targetted for pigs and chickens spreading on stubbles.
