what kind of prices are folk hearing for SPD seed? I've heard some varieties have already sold out. What's the general feeling on varieties? Is there a "Must Have" this year?

Can't get a price on seed yet. They are happy to take orders though.

Going to try some sundance and hardwicke along with solo and istabraq.

I know one national has sold out of overyeared Istabraq and new seed Sundance.

Deter has always been about £120-130/mt, so not sure what rates you drill at?

Early sowings in September when the insecticide is useful management tool for early aphid infestation around 125 kg/ha so 8 hectares per tonne - £16 hectare (£6.50 acre). Gets more expensive with higher seed rates but these are generally into October nowadays when aphid pressure less so doubtful will get Deter. Hopefully get home saved not treated seed straight from barn.
