What I've been quoted....I keep hearing £360 to £400 for a new variety, and some a bit more.

its what the market will bear, fear ,marketing, and gullibilityMy annual moan can someone please tell me why it should cost circa £40/t extra to have seed manganese treated? Must only cost them about £1 extra.
next question do you know at what rate or how much manganese is being applied for yhe £40 ,suspect the answer is noMy annual moan can someone please tell me why it should cost circa £40/t extra to have seed manganese treated? Must only cost them about £1 extra.

Disagree. Might not be economic but definitely has an effect.Just don't use it. It's rubbish.
Whilst I am not going to divulge cost prices on here I can tell you it is nowhere near as cheap as you might think.... And even at £40 per tonne (with say 175kg/ha) that is £7 per ha, available from the beginning and right where the plant needs it. And I am not having a go at the spay alternatives just making a point about seed treatment as an option.
I am not sure about comparing seed treatments with foliar applications of Manganese but we use i-Man seed treatment from de Sangosse which delivers 450g/tonne and allows uptake through the seed coat and root hairs which leads to a higher amount of Mn reaching the growing plant.
smoke and mirrorsI'd be interested to know how this de Sangosse product compares to say Yara Mantrac? This is a 500g/L product with the label stating seed application rates of 2-6L/t... Last price I saw it was about £5/L so £10 to £30/T (and I'm sure this or similar can be bought much cheaper than that) but for arguments sake at this price the 2L rate is supplying 1000g Mn per tonne at £10?
Am I missing something here?
Like I said previously however it was worth having Mn on the SB seed in some fields given the conditions post emergence - this of course is hindsight though!
£7/ha is a bif spend on Mang - especially if thats juts the start with folior spring applications to follow
My soils are very mang hungry and I spent £3.50/ha last year on foliar application (WW)
too much "its only so much extra per Ha" goes on in ag - the same is said about Deter vs an insecticide and Latitude etc on seed but add it all together and you are setting out to grow a loss making crop before you start IMO if not careful
You do need an autumn application in severe deficiency areas and you were mis sold.We were talked in to using it on some very mang hungry soils a few years ago. 'Guaranteed ' it would take it into the spring! Well I can 'guarantee' it did not do that and foliar applications were required in the backend as is our normal practice! Complete waste of money
if the proposed tff buying line takes off sellers may have to divulge as things will become more transparent , at £40 a50% plus mark up seems a lotWhilst I am not going to divulge cost prices on here I can tell you it is nowhere near as cheap as you might think.... 2 row Winter Barley SPD is £352-365 depending on variety. Plus £130 for Deter. So Deter treated will be £36 acre.
Anyone growing KWS Orwell this year? Any feedback?
Does Deter have effect on deterring slugs?
