new /SH kit prices

Had a price last week on a brand new bit of kit which came back at £9750+vat straight deal no trade in,looking about online this morning and a dealer has a machine the exact same for sale,year 2011 for £10785+vat,do some people when looking for machines automatically presume that new kit is too expensive and look for good second hand stuff?obviously theres warranty as well with the new one,i thought with it being as tough for dealers as some say it is at the moment they'd be keen to get 2nd hand stuff off their books but with prices like that its a no brainer in my opinion

I always check new prices. Decent reps who know they have keen prices are generally keen to give a quote.
Having said that the purchases I've made this year have been 2 & 5 years old, but it's got to be a decent saving on new.
Same rep in both instances for new price so feel bit sorry haven't given him a deal as he's always so helpful. But there's always another time.

I think a lot of secondhand stuff is still far too dear. Dealers moaning they arent shifting stuff, but you have to get the trade moving at all levels. Nearly new prices on secondhand stuff is bonkers.

This can be a consequence of high retail prices on new machinery. Some just see the price and automatically look for secondhand. Surprising how some do very little homework when purchasing.
New isn't always available immediately either. If you need the machine quickly then price isn't always the main issue.

Very often new stuff comes with 0% or subsidised finance which along with the warranty makes used kit look even more expensive compared to new. Most of the time when we buy a tractor, which isn't very often, we look for an used one but decide we can't afford used and end up buying new.

They are the ones who tend to move the new stuff. Trouble is, they have massive capital tied up in rust. There's a very fine line between selling stuff and actually giving stuff away at a loss. Some salesmen are known for it and did it for years, not caring a stuff about their employers. And their terms of employment plus a vibrant agricultural industry allowed them to get away with it, in some cases for all their career. Things have certainly changed over the years though, and got a lot tougher for all concerned.

Many salesmen now are not allowed to do a deal with a part exchange unless they have underwritten or have a customer for the part exchange. Even if they have found a customer, there's no certainty whatsoever that they will actually sell the original new product in the face of competition from rival dealers.

Gone are the days of a salesman turning up on your yard and being able to give you a price for your p/x. They always seem to have to take photos and go back to ask either their boss or a potential customer for a valuation. It can make doing a deal quite tedious and I'm sure they often lose out on the 'strike while the iron's hot' factor. Once a farmer has had time to think/get the old machine going/get a contractor it's often too late to make a deal IMO.

The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) alongside the Farm Safety Partnership (FSP), has named new farm safety champions and commended the outstanding work on farm safety that has been carried out in the farming community in the last 20 years.

Two of these champions are Malcom Downey, retired principal inspector for the Agri/Food team in HSENI and Harry Sinclair, current chair of the Farm Safety Partnership and former president of the Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU).
