I've had Longhorns for 20 yrs too, Id still look at the Mudge one before I bought another though.
What switch does the Mudge one use, the Longhorn is only a tiny domestic display lighting type switch inside unit and I have replaced a couple of them.
I suspect motors started off in China too, but so might they all.
Is the Mudge compatable with Lister flexi drives , Longhorn isn't, doesn't much matter to me, but might matter if you have a shed full of Lister stuff.
If I was shearing more than a few sheep and buying again, I'd try to find a way to shear static and buy an electric one. A car battery will not spin a 3500rpm machine at full speed for very long.
The battery powered crutching shears with battery on belt clip are said to be much handier for cleaning off a few odd lambs too.

Was planning on buying a new Horner shearing machine to work off a car battery for next year. However, discovered George Mudge does a similar one (see link below). was wondering if anyone had experience of having one of these machines or if anyone knows how it compares to the Horner

Mudge's ........... is a good machine ...

..i think i'm right in saying .....its developed from the old alligator/euroclip machine ....excellent power/long lasting motor.

If you already have a lister just buy a generator, the Horner ones are great for a few but get in to a lot of close wooled sheep and they slow down and it's a tedious job. Among Swales and Blakies no probs and will go all day on a good battery but Cheviots or the like it's not really fast enough, dread to think what it would be like shearing Morinos with one

I only clip a couple of hundred each year and borrow a Horner at the moment. The sheep are kept in a few different places which makes the portable battery run ones so handy,

Yep its a tractor battery I use for the Horner and it lasts most of the day, hadn't thought about the Lister Nova so will just leave it that way.
