 :unsure:It wasn't meant like that. I just wasn't sure if that was widely known. Just put in our first insulated shutters recently and it's bliss not listening to the clatter on a windy day. (y)
no its fine i understood,we have fitted lots of ordinary rollers and sectional insulated doors but not insulated rollers we almost put them on a job but the headroom was limited and the coil would have been to big this was a good few years ago and they were as much as the sectionals but i think they are more competitive now

Strong old locks on the pedestrian door

Have I missed what it's going to house @Clive ?

mostly building materials for my house right now, nothing too special but its not far from a footpath and nothing is safe these days unless locked away

it will have cars as well as farm kit in there so it needs to be relatively secure

My thoughts exactly!!

It looks a strong job....but a cordless grinder in the cladding or shutter door would soon make a doorway.

At the end of the day, you can only do so much....that's what insurance is for.

true, if anyone REALLY wants in they will get in. Its all about making it hard though, close to my house so I would hear the kind of kit required to cut a way in I reckon

I hate uninsulated doors, way to flimsy and rattle in the wind as you say, also very easy for thieves to get in - just push them hard enough and they pop out the tracks

Yes, we were told they work out about the same price as rollers but more for the steelwork, it's for the refurb job @Forever Fendt so there was a lot to add on already as they're on the side of the building.

There is a beam running across at the moment as an eaves tie, so they were trying to use that, but it would of meant having another post next to the stanchion, to bring it in line with the beam.

didn't have to do anything different to steelwork between this or a insulated roller shutter as far as I know, the roller shutter would have made door opening lower than the sectional door though

very happy with it, feel good quality and secure

Thinking of putting a 20ftx20ft mez in here now sheeted floor to roof with insulated board and a ply second floor and steel staircase - what do you think that should cost ?

I have just done this to three buildings, clad inside in celotex type boards and ply over the top, it's cheap to do, found a superb 2nd hand / seconds supplier, about half price of new. Artic load of ply down, again about £ 6 cheaper a sheet than builders yard.

Pm me if you want any info

I priced the seconds insulation boards and didn't think there was much saving, iirc I paid 13.85 for 50mm , 28 for 100mm and 35 for 150mm.for new.
How does that compare?

yes thats correct you need a door head to form the opening, then above this you need a spring beam usually a channel face on with a 180 mm min face to take the full width shaft and springs and centre bearings, the vertical door posts need to run continuous to the top level of the spring beam. You can have the door track horizontal across the top of the opening hung of the purlins , if it was me i would have a high lift door and the track fixed below the purlins following the roof angle remembering to allow for any lights you may want to hang from purlins , sectional doors like this are ok chain operated and do not rattle in the wind and are more reliable than a roller but will cost a bit more,if you are having one of these to a new building the steelwork needs designing to suit before hand
Sorry to be a door-boor, but I was thinking of fitting a door to the garage.......and those sectional doors look a lot tidier than the bog standard roller shutters. Any idea of cost for a 5m x 2m high door ?

I have hardwood sectional doors on my garages - they are really nice, absolute rolls Royce of a job but also very expensive - something like 4K each if I recall correctly for 3x 2.5 ish

It was a while ago when i ordered them but from memory it was something like £13vs 26 and 16 vs 30. I rang around about 4 builders yard and as buying a lorry load was expecting good prices.

best to price it local but at 5m wide you will be getting into industrial door territory and will need some extra headroom above the structural opening more than with a roller and don't forget the track in the roof will you have room for this ?
