What else can replace my landrover defender 90? In fact, when shogun swb van has gone, what 4x4 has a short van model. Disco commericial is jeffing expensive and too long. Hopefully the defender may go back into production (according to another thread on here)

I have been running shoguns for 14 years now and am a big fan of them. First one was a bought new 2014 warrior swb it did 126000miles till some knob drove into the side of me and wrote it off last year. In that time it needed no welding or engine/ gearbox work, just the usual wear and tair parts, only major was a fuel tank 2 months before it was wrote off, it did it’s fair share of towing and pounded up and down the motorway no problems,
I had a 2006 swb warrior commercial for a few years with grabber tyres and it would climb mountains the off road capability of these motors is way above what is required I had it in some shapes and it never gave in

Have a 2006 swb warrior now with 65000 miles and it drives perfect, yes the engines are a bit agricultural but very reliable and they may not have the refinements of other motors but they are built to be rugged and used

I do want a new one but holding off to see what this brexit carry on does and new diesel motors are getting humped buy the donkeys in power hopeing Mitsubishi’s sort out emissions a bit more in the future or do a petrol one again .

If buying second hand make sure it has dealer history as ther have been several recalls over the years for parts

What’s the competition for the shogun?

The shogun was, back in the 90’s and early 00’s up to around when the disco 3 launced a creditable alternative to a disco td5 and land cruiser. The disco has moved on a lot, the land cruiser less so, but the shogun has, bar a couple facelifts and engine tweeks, remained pretty much the same since early 00’s

I agree, all mine been great, almost totally reliable. If they had continued investing in the model, id almost certainly be driving one now. But i cant take to that 5 speed auto, hence why i now drive a d40

Nothing!!
This is the problem I and I suspect many other Defender owners face, other than 2nd hand /ex demo Shoguns or newer 2nd Defenders at daft Prices theres nothing out there unless I’m missing something.
I’m stuck with my defender! I’ve three people who keep trying to buy it off me but I’ve know idea what to buy .
My defender is 10 years old 105k miles pretty tidy.
I don’t want a pickup

Sadly the disco 'moved on' by 10k.

It has and by some more as well, but its as popular as ever among die hard disco fans.

I have always been a fan of mitsubishi vehicles, mainly as i really rated all my past shoguns, if the new sport is good, and i take too it, no doubt ill be back in a mitsi soon

To be honest i would prefer a SWB commercial as well, but with a small family, the d40 has proved well suited to my needs, the extra seats are very handy.

Compared to the swb shogun, the d40 is much bigger, and initially i found it cumbersome, but once in got used to its size in the usual places i drive / turn / park, I soon got used to it.

Luckily wife has disco to run the 4 kids around in, otherwise Id have lwb too. Like to be able to parallel park with my 90 defender which i would miss. Disco parks like a ruddy straw trailer.

Had a look very recently and yes they are good but they drive like an L200 of which we have one with the same gearbox but admittedly slightly smaller engine unit. I think you will be disappointed after a few weeks of use.
I’m on my second shogun and there nothing like a l200 to drive far comfier and better seating position and the 3.2 has lots of low down torque for towing they will plug away with out having to change down and get the revs back up.i always found you had to get the revs up and use the turbo more on a l200.

Current shogun stopped production. Shame really.

Its well past its 'sell-by date' and about time there was a major update of it. Question is, whether there's actually going to be a new Mitsubishi Shogun/Pajero/Montero model or whether they will just abandon the luxury SUV market? Now that Renault owns Mitsubishi [and Nissan] there must surely be another opportunity to badge engineer to get sufficient volume sales and lower the price to make it a competitive and worthwhile venture. It would make sense to co-develop it as the next world Nissan Patrol, considering that the current mammoth Patrol is petrol only and therefore only suitable for Australia, the Middle East and N. America. They really need substantial efficiency gains to meet future legislation.

I only had manuals, all were great trucks. The current 5 speed auto is horrid in my opinion, hence why i have moved away from them. They stopped building new manual commercials around 3 years ago.
The 5 speed auto is out of date as is the rest of the vehicle. The 5 speed is the same model that used to be used in the LC Colorado and the Isuzu and Toyota pickups. Made by AW which is more or less owned by Toyota.

Mitsubishi is now part of a group that has its own auto transmission division of course, so in future you may expect to see the seven speed Jatco unit that is found in the Navara finding its way into Mitsubishi models.

They could easily fit the Renault engine that is used in the Navara and Mercedes X-Class in any new Mitsubishi.
