The 5 speed auto is out of date as is the rest of the vehicle. The 5 speed is the same model that used to be used in the LC Colorado and the Isuzu and Toyota pickups. Made by AW which is more or less owned by Toyota.

Mitsubishi is now part of a group that has its own auto transmission division of course, so in future you may expect to see the seven speed Jatco unit that is found in the Navara finding its way into Mitsubishi models.

The new sport has an 8 speed auto according to specs, who’s is that?

@d williams Commercial shogun has 5yr 62500 mile warranty.
I will take your word for it but he told me his had 3 yrs as I thought there was 5 yrs as he's dad a few sensor issues on the 4wd only on the ones with seats have 5 yrs not sure as to why because the same vehicle unless they afraid of working environment he's had his last summer

It would be surprising if they have decided to buy one in from a rival for the cheaper Sport, but a pure guess would be from AW [aisin warner] who are their old established supplier.
There are two variants of the 7 speed Jatco, the heavy duty version being fitted to the Navara. They could have used the light duty version [up to 400Nm] in the Sport. I wonder why they don’t? I wonder whether the reports of it having an 8 speed are accurate? It just might be a reporter’s mistake. Or perhaps the design was finalised before Renault/Nissan took over? That’s probably the most likely scenario.

The AW unit is superb. It’s been fitted to the Audi Q7 v6 diesels for several years now.

Defiantly an 8 speed, coupled to the Mitsubishi super select 4wd system, and it has centre and rear diffs.

On paper it looks quite good, only thing i would add is a silky smooth v6. The towing at 3.1t is not thes best, but would be ok for me

It will be made by AW in all probability. The super-select transfer box could be made to fit any brand of automatic or manual transmission, but it’s possible that the engineering and cost constraints of having it fit both a manual and auto transmission limited them to Aisin. Besides which I would trust the AW before a Jatco by reputation and it’s got an extra ratio, which is a good thing.

I wonder whether this transmission will find its way into the L200, considering that the Sport is a derivative of it?

The shogun sport has been avaiable in Australia and asian markets for some time, indeed they are spoilt for choice out there, as izusu, mitsubishi, and i think toyota and ford have similar pickup based suv’s available in them markets

In the uk we dont really have such a vehicle available in my opinion, we tend to have smaller suv’s that dont have the off road capability or towing capacity such as freelander / rav 4 etc to match the more expensive varients such as the discovery, audi q7 etc.

Therefore up to now if you wanted a capable tow and off road vehicle without spending the best part of £50k (bar the current shogun) you have to buy a pick up. This should slot into the market beween the pickups and the more expensive suv’s, and give another option to those who dont want a pickup, or want to spend £50k on a new vehicle.

I suspect after dealer discounts, these should hit the market at around £30k

@d williams . I have seen my general warranty but not in detail. Maybe there are many limiting points for commercial as suggested by previous posts. I hope not, however I'm a 8k year milage user but sensors and seats still wear out. Ill post details when it arrives in a month or so.

it's good but they're far too dear, wanted like 8k to swap from a 2015 one with 10k miles on to a april 2017 one with 1200 miles on, rather just buy an old defender for stock box duties and have a very nice car for the 20k left over.

Pulls slightly better than a disco 3, but the disco 3 was nicer to drive, but it was riddled with issues.

Looked and looked middle of last year at the SWB Commercial Shogun to replace the last of three SWB Commercial Troopers (after two Defenders) (the TD5 drove me to Isuzu).

I just couldn't bring myself to buy the Shogun, my last Trooper was a last of the line 2005 and the new Shoguns looked like a new truck - but from a decade ago. Frankly the Shogun is / was all there is in that 3/3.5 towing capability and go-anywhere on tickover off-road. Looked at a Outlander - too car like, even contemplated a Dacia Duster as an 'expendable' vehicle until something better came onto the market.

Finally bought a D4 Commercial, one owner, good spec, 18mos old, just on 20k. £35 + vat. I won the race to the dealers by driving 150miles to see it on the same day it was advertised. Warranty and 2 years service pack. Two others were in the queue

So far so good and a completely different vehicle to the Trooper. £4k more than the top spec SWB Shogun but I'm very happy with the truck. Have put Grabber AT3s on it.

It's good to be driving a LR again, it's just difficult to drive one with your fingers and legs crossed......

I hope the new Shogun does come here in Commercial form - and hopefully not as shiny as the civvi model looks.

Just bought my fourth shogun don't know why but really enjoy driving them. There comfortable with all the toys that I will ever need and is just as happy with a trailer loaded to the max or trundling down the motorway. I liked the Auto but find manual a lot better on fuel also the wife won't drive the auto box.
Just bought a 63 reg with 70,000 miles. Could have probably bought a newer 4 door pickup with lower miles for less money but could not bring myself to do it.

Pretty sure that the Shogun Sport has been sold in the UK off and on for many years.

It has, but has been discontinued for what must be kocking on 10 years if not more.

The new model have been avaialbe elsewhere for a good 2 years if not more. And as far as i am aware the Izusu MU-X, Toyota fortuner, or the Ford Everest, which are all by the looks of them pickup based SUV's that are avialabe in the austrailian and aisian markets, have never been availabe in the UK or possably even Europe. They seem to have far more choice of this type of vehicle over there.

Australia im sure will have as stringent emissions regulations as the uk and europe, so if they are making them for that market, why have they not offered them in europe or the UK?

Australian emission regs on agricultural vehicles is way way behind EU. John Deere combines are, according to our dealer, tier 2 and £40k less. So cars may be less stringent to?

As I understand, they have adopted the euro standard, and all new passenger vehicles must be euro 6 at present

I think we are biased - those of us who want a 4x4 car derived 'truck'. We see there's a market in our world but the reality of the average 'SUV' customer now means as sure as sh*t that 3 or 3.5t towing and a serious ability to go uphill and down dale in the boggy stuff aren't at the top of the list. The requirement for proper nibbo and baby seats also means that the van gets the thumbs down. I dont think the UK market for proper utility vehicles is really that big and many of the SUVs that are out there are like fake divers' watches; they look good on the wrist but nobody goes diving in one.

What it needs in the UK is for Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Toyota - or dare I say it LR to offer a true utility 'truck' and it could be as basic as you like providing it's modern, comfortable, with a set of specs that appeals to use rather than fashion. Sell it to the European market as a single model - just as the LR90 / Defender used to be used and I reckon it would sell in enough numbers. The Shermans offer a similar solution for their police departments - Ford offers this Utility Interceptor and you see them everywhere now in many states in many guises but they are all the same vehicle underneath and are extremely popular https://www.ford.com/fordpoliceinterceptor/gallery/#/videos/

Take a decent Isuzu platform and make one. Give the user a proper tax break - and then pass laws to forbid them to be parked outside schools, gyms or plumbers' merchants ;)

Australia, for its shame, lags well behind Europe and N. America on pollution regulations.
