I notice the cellar with round posts has an Aeromixer fitted, akternately, if you want to stir by circulating with a pump, a slalom system with solid walls, like the first example is needed. You makes your choice, then pays the money.

Would an aero mixer in a million gallon tower replace a big stirrer or is the stirrer still needed?

I know of a few over here with aero mixers in above ground stores, seems to work fine, but if a thick hard crust had formed I think you would still need a stirrer.

Can aero mixers go wrong though? Doesn’t seem to be anything to go wrong that’s in the slurry? Just compressor to maintain I guess?

Nothing to go wrong, it's plastic pipe with holes in, the compressor is safe and sound outside and runs on off-peak juice. Don't see why it would not work with digestate. Much less smell, far less dangerous gases and easy to repair once the store is emptied.

The problem with seeking advice for something like this is that everybody relates their own experiences. For example, one farmer might have frothy slurry when mixed with an aeromixer, another might find it doesn't even work very well. Digestate actually responds well to an Aeromixer, in fact a million gallon tower of digestate will probably be best mixed in this way. No mechanical stirrer is going to reach the centre of a 104' diameter tank. An aeromixer will, however increase odour while mixing, as you are turning an anaerobic product into an aerobic product. It will smell less when spread than mechanically mixed, however.
