Good you have done your SFP application to have a baseline. You need to buy entitlements next Spring at 1 per hectare. You don't need any land agents, just find a broker to get 6 units -usually via a market. Then next year you should get paid around £100 per acre for BPS and greening payment. You may need an inspection at some point which for mainly hay should be easy and well worth £1500 per year. Livestock is where the failings happen. We have had 3 inspections in 23 years.
Buying entitlements was our best investment - paid off in 3 years then just income after that. Payment in Scotland will continue for 2 more years then a different regime hopefully same money but with environmental conditions which may be a hassle for smaller farmers -carbon audits, nutrient budgets.
You will need some basic records around any sprays and fertiliser storage for possible inspections. You also need to keep records on your sales to ensure payment and also the taxman. Of course you may take some cash and just say there was a poor crop of 25 bales. And they may ask for the baling contractors invoice for 80:(

^ A sound constructive post. The only thing I’d add is that is if you haven’t already, it would be wise to talk to your local ‘Rural Payments’ office and ask them the right questions. Along the lines of: does this land have entitlements attached?, and is this land eligible for Single Farm Payment?
I’ve always found local RPID / SGRPID office (or whatever they’re called this week) to be extremely helpful and approachable, but do it a couple of months before the deadline.
If your going to the Highland Show this week, maybe drop in to their stand and have a chat.

Just highlights the gross stupidity of the system where you can have 15 acres in Scotland and get paid yet 15 acres in England and they make sure your below the eligibility limit.
