These were a late 80's 612 and an early 90's 395, so old school fendts that were supposed to be reliable. These machines were put together in such a way that any trouble in the back end pretty much wrote them off, as they are unbelieveably difficult to work on. The main dealers were quoting about 5k just to strip out and rebuild the back end in labour alone and the 395 needed 10k worth of new parts so 15k just to repair the gearbox on a tractor that's worth 10k. Utter non starter.. luckily a main dealer found a secondhand gearbox to rob for parts but it still cost a fortune and the tractor sat in pieces for 2 years.. In my opinion Fendt should be doing what the premium earthmover Cat do with their classic parts and support the old stuff with sensible pricing. The 612 got sold for a mb 1500, which is far more sucessfull despite having done 16'000 odd hours and the 395 clocks 600 odd hours a year on loader work. God knows how the newer ones get on with far more complicated systems...
