New tractor with no warranty ?

Bit of a strange one but a local farmer has recently bought a new tractor, someone working for him was having a look underneath it and the farmer went into a bit of a panic about something being wrong with it, said he’d bought it without warranty to get the price down.. I wouldn’t have thought it possible but knowing the farmer in question, it wouldn’t surprise me

I expect that they didn't get the "extended warranty", which is more like an insurance policy than a statutory warranty.

I remember been told by postman 30 years ago that post office had big discount on new vans because they were bought without warranty
Did not think it possible with new tractors

Quite likely that he wouldn’t have paid for an extended warranty but as this tractor probably isn’t a month old, it does make his comment about having been bought without warranty rather strange.
Knowing the individual, it wouldn’t surprise me at all that he’d buy a tractor without warranty if it were cheaper…………….and no doubt complain if issues arose

Sort of well it was made abroad but has come from the local dealer

Pretty sure it’s legally compulsory that you have too have a certain level of warranty on a new vehicle.. think it’s 12months?

Yes, I realise you meant an unofficial import, highly unlikely considering it came from main dealer I would think

I thought manufacturers had to offer 12 months warranty on any new product, it’s just his statement that he’d bought it without warranty to keep the price down git me wondering

I can believe that he’s tight enough to forego a warranty to keep the price down, but I most certainly don’t think he’s stupid, I can’t imagine him making that mistake. Had he wanted extended warranty thrown in the deal I wouldn’t have been surprised but that’s not what he said

Under the 'Sale of goods Act' he has one year.

If I recall correctly, when the Ferguson T20 tractors were first marketed they were sold with a six month warranty.
Pretty sure that sales promotions stated this back in the post war years?

My tractors a no excess warranty on everything for 4 years

main reason I bought it you really do have to read the small print when buying new now

Reminds me of my neighbour who had a new tractor sieze the back axle the week after delivery, collapsed bearing. He was given a replacement.

our main tractor had a 3yr/3000 hour warranty. Just had a big bill £12500 bill, and its just over 3000 hrs, luckily, insurance job. Its not been a 'reliable' tractor, lots of niggles with it.

we have p/x against a new one, earlier than intended, but the extra cost on the monthly payments, by experience of the old one, is covered by repair bills. Plus tyres were wearing down, difficult call.

but we have paid extra, for a 5yr/6000 hour warranty, peace of mind really, worth it

our contractor has had the back axle rebuilt, less than 200 hours.
