New Truck

Do the maths with lease vs ownership. Include depreciation rates.
In NZ, any farmer or ag. contractor doing over 20,000 kms (12,500 miles) per annum is better to lease under NZ tax laws.
Ford Ranger (3.2 Litre diesel) was NZ's most sold new vehicle last year, first time Toyota Corolla lost that spot for a decade.

Better to buy a 12 month old with low miles maybe and run it for just a year or two under warranty then get rid?

I can't tell you conclusively as I have never run one of these things, but I suspect you may be right. I would not under any circumstances dare run one out of warranty. They are hugely complex machines, not cheap to buy new and the reputation for Audi dealers to part people from cash when dealing with mechanical woes is legendary. Read any VAG forum, it is the stuff of nightmares.

No sir, you are talking about cars (although as you point out you didn't mention the word "car") and yet, strangely you refer to them as "trucks".

Weird.
