Considering you're on a small island, how on earth do you clock up that sort of mileage?​

Works out at about 25,000 miles a year doesn't it? I can confirm this is a standard agronomist mileage!

It's funny how different people treat buying cars, I was listening to an American talk show on the radio the other day, one of the presenters said his car was knackered, 480,000 miles. So was looking for a fresh car but didn't see any point in a new one as he racks the miles up to quickly!

It's funny how different people treat buying cars, I was listening to an American talk show on the radio the other day, one of the presenters said his car was knackered, 480,000 miles. So was looking for a fresh car but didn't see any point in a new one as he racks the miles up to quickly!

To rack up 480,000 miles would take about 12,000 running hours at highway average speed. Let's say that he drives five hours a day for five days a week for 45 weeks a year, and that it isn't run in shifts with different drivers. That's 1575 hours a year. 63,000 miles a year.

So seven and a half years to drive 480,000 miles or thereabouts. Could be a lot less time if it was a taxi or bus being worked in shifts 24 hours a day of course, even in the UK.

Long haul truckers running a team can run from L.A. into say New York in around three and a half days, that's around 3000 miles.
Running along I-80 out of California is 75mph but once in those eastern states things slow a little.

It somehow seems more acceptable in a Fiesta entry level car than in a 'premium' German car like Mercedes and BMW.
