New Vaderstad Seed hawk

Anyone else take a look at LAMMA this year ?

quite a different drill from the one we had demo'ed a few years back. More "seed cart" stye with wheels at the back, wheels not really big enough to carry the weight IMO though

Not keen on the dolly style drawbar arrangement either, think it would rob the tractor of weight to get good traction and power down, I guess the idea is to create a more stable platform for the coulters to hang from ? the guy I spoke to on the stand reckoned 300-350hp to pull 8m, seems a lot to me for a low disturbance drill ??

Is it just me or was the previous version better in many respects ? any one used one ? if so how do it go ?

That seems a hell of a lot of power given that Dale quote 20hp/m

That was my thought exactly - maybe the guy on the stand had it wrong but I can see how having no weight transfer to the drawbar whatsoever wouldn't help with pulling it at all. I guess they have gone down that route to provide a more stable platform for coulters to hang from but if it really has increased power req that much I think they have made a BIG mistake with it

Trying to find a pic on the net but nothing coming up of the revised version

I'd put a bet that the salesmans' info was wrong

Could be but the drawbar arrangement didn't impress me, neither did the tyres that looked like it was very much a dry climate design

just not liking that draw-bar arrangement and I think that is why it's going to take a lot more pulling ?

It's the same drawbar they use on the 6, 8m combi and jumbo rapid. I think a 8m rapid whit systemdisk take a lot more to pull then seedhawk. Here the normal tractor for a big rapid is 300+. The drawbar make it follow very god on headland as it "sterout".

Article in yellow comic says 25hp/metre

Confirms that the rep on their LAMMA stand didn't know the product at all then !

Think you would be asking a lot for a 200hp tractor to pull that 8m lump up a hill though when the drawbar arrangement transfers no weight at all to the tractor ??

A fellow Hampshire farmer, James Dockery has been running one of the first seed hawks in the UK. I would imagine that some of the changes you see on the new/current drill are on the back of his and other early UK users experiences? Persumably there were issues with the original spec that needed changing?

I like the new seed hawk, I feel most of the issues we had at Farmeco have been resolved with the new model and eagerly await the uk 12m version! Assuming their will be one.

Chap on the stand said there was plans for UK transport width 12m but he did get the HP requirement wrong so wouldn't trust that too much !

Why would you prefer it to a Dale Eco- drill ? Already a 12m available and it's cheaper than same width seed hawk. Think the Dale has a better method of maintaining depth as well, single point mounting on the seed hawk not ideal IMO
