I have just checked two brand new 12 volt car batteries and the date appears to read 19/03; actually having just checked it states" Recharge date 19/03. Therefore they would be somewhat older. Is this acceptable, I do not think so.

I have a Lidl battery charger which indicates the batterys voltage and per centage of charge.

First battery, 12.1 volts and 62% charged, second battery 12.6 volts and 86% charged. The batteries were not in stock and there was a three day gap between the seller getting both of them into his business. They are Yuasa 7000 series batteries, thanks for any opinions Angus.

Are they fitted to a newish car? if it has one of these crappy smart alternators like most euro6 cars and vans have to have then they only charge the battery to 80% then switch off, the remaining 20% is only charged when you are braking with the engine on overrun the alternator kicks back in and fires high amps back in to the battery while your braking.

Its a load of crap but that's emissions sh1t for you, would make sense on a hybrid but on a normal engine its totally pointless.

What the cronk, why would anyone dream up such a daft idea?

No, not that new @ACEngineering I just wanted a pair of decent batteries after some failures just out of warranty. I will speak with the vendor tomorrow, Angus.

I tend to buy varta batteries if i need an automotive style IMO, as the local motor factor stopped selling varta i now just order them on line from Tanya batteries as and when i need them. (The Blue or Silver vartas only never touch the black ones as the spec and the warranty isn't good)

They just arrive next day via normal courier in a card board box lined with polystyrene!
