New Water supply. Calculating farm usage???

Following the construction of a small housing estate on top of my existing water supply pipework, the building company have agreed (no choice really!) to put in a new 32mm supply down about 300m of my farm lane to join up with the existing supply. They will cover all the costs, including a new connection.

So all good and can be sorted easily enough. However, I am told that STWater will need to have an indication of the likely usage so will need to know the the properties that will be served, and also how much water will be required at peak demand by the farm.

The domestic properties are easy enough... but the farm, well I havr no idea where to get that sort of info. Water tanks with 3/4" ball valves for around 80-90 head youngstock at maximum demand, or maybe a 3/4" feed for topping up IBC's for sprayer filling.

Are there any templates for calcul;ating these please?

If you pay the extra for a wider pipe, just lay 62mm or 50mm and connect to a 32mm connection. Then, if you need more, it's not tricky.

I laid 62mm pipe, and they put me a 50mm connection in as, at the time, the price was the same and I said that future use may be a lot more.

Just checked our off farm, with stock numbers not far from yours 4.5 cu m day
To calculate peak demand turn on a couple of taps full bore at the same time. Catch in a bucket & time how long it takes.
Simple sum & add a bit for luck should give you an answer

So STW (bless their little cotton socks) should already know how much water you consume! But if they are ncapable of interpreting these figures just do a meter reading for a period of a few hours when you are using a lot of water, such as when you are spraying.

Magic, thank you. :)

However, STW are positive saintly compared to the truly appalling mess and abomination that is WaterPlus!

Commonsense finally prevailed witrh STW as the building Co have a friendly old time contact in STW and not a WaterPlus drone...

My old meter cannot be moved, but they are going to put in a new Meter, but with the old account, and they are extrapolating our future usage which takes all of 30seconds... just look at our old bills!!!

I'm convinced Water+ only exist in order to demonstrate how bad things could possibly be. Nobody will believe you when you say they are bad, it is one of those things that must be experienced in order to understand and even then it is difficult to believe it is "normal" for them to be so bad.

Personally speaking, I think you putting quite a positive spin on the delights of WaterPlus...

Descriptions could include poor, inferior, unexceptional, abysmal, average, dreadful, appalling, flawed, atrocious and awful. On a bad day, the above do not describe adequately, the WaterPlus experience for their customers....
