So why are the markets so full of lambs at the moment? When I don't think that there will be much Nz lamb coming over here next spring. Are people selling in fear of Brexit or are they shifting lamb go get money to buy stupidly expensive ewes just because other farmers are doing so. What we should do is sell all ewes at a premium this year and buy in store cattle which seem cheap to me.

It would be useful if we had a few definitive comments from the meat trade, as too how their trade has been affected with the threat of Brexit, also some real feed back as to the main spec they want/can sell best, instead of leaving it to AHDB to give a message that farmers don't really want to hear most of the time.

Store cattle? You haven't looked at fat cattle prices, have you...

This talk of hopefully things will get better if we get a deal - we already have a deal that can't be improved upon with the 27 countries the deal is with! We can load lambs Monday, process them Tuesday, drive straight to Paris on Sunday, no stops, no hassle and deliver into Paris 7 days after it leaves the farm. Technically things could get a bit better when the unceartainty is dealt with, but the damage is done for this year, EU buyers are sourcing from elsewhere if possible, but they will return if we are cheap enough. Add to that the glut of cattle in Ireland and this winter could be a long one.

We have been suckered into thinking the EU market is holding us back from the riches of greater markets around the world - there is not one untapped market around the world that is just waiting to buy only British beef and Lamb, yes of course there are pockets of opportunities to sell Limited quantities of premium product, but nothing that compares to what we send to the 27 just down the road.

But even if Brexit had died 3 yrs ago, the U.K. Red meat industry problems would still be here, Brexit simply takes the blame, sorting this mess won't be easy, maybe impossible because diets are changing and red meat is blamed for killing the climate, add that to the fact we have too few abattoirs and even less retailers then we lack competition. And do retailers care? Absolutely not.

We are in an era of change, we are not owed a living any,ore than anyone else and if we can't provide it cheap enough then someone else will.
