A friend of mine who is half Filipino said NZ was the most racist country he has visited, he like snow boarding and travels a bit. He won’t go back.

Ant…
It’s really only the last few years where Cindy has imposed apartheid that has seen the racism come in, once she’s gone it will take several years to get back to where we were.

That’s interesting & quite sad about the racism in NZ

I always held it up as an example of how well Māoris were integrated / accepted into “mainstream” society, compared to black fellas in Australia

my mother, who was Scottish, came from very poor working class rural stock, who grew up during the Depression in a church run orphanage, who was a Nurse her whole life & first job was in a military hospital, who also dealt with a LOT of refugees during WW2, who was the most caring & compassionate & liberal person I have ever known, used to say “scratch an Australian & you’ll find a racist underneath”

It saddens me if the NZ that I thought I knew ( my cousins really, in an international sense ), has gone down that path 😢

I don't think we are any better or worse than ever, tbh. But these policies being put in place will put a real wedge in a lot of things, just because it is put in from the top doesn't mean we can't shove it back and reject it for what it represents
Careful Pete, the thought police will be after you. Sad times.

Yeah. Face value, all this crap looks like [is spun to look like] it has something of benefit to everybody

In reality, Goebbels would be immensely proud that his baby still lives on

The protest bill going through the house of lords atm. is pretty extreme too, it's happening the world over and it'll end up pushing folk to the fringes, I think I heard somewhere (but haven't verified) that the dutch government are wanting to monitor purchases over €100, social credit not far off? Orwellian nightmare doesn't seem far enough away for my liking.

Cuddling up to China?
Not something that suddenly started when labour got in.

A large number of people supported the Covid measures, wasn't it business leaders who asked for the first lockdown? A very large percentage got vaccinated.
I don't know enough about 3 waters to comment but water infrastructure seems a bit of a shambles here, so something probably needs to change.
Much of the crime comes from gangs and the drugs they import and supply. This has been a problem for as long as I've been here (20years) In the 20 years I've always found NZ to be racist to be honest.
I don't like the way the government is trying to control the media but I think its something all governments do. The media need a kick up the arse for letting it happen

Hopefully we don't copy the yanks and end up with two parties that just decide every policy the other has is wrong and do the opposite, regardless of whether it was a good idea. That doesn't acheive anything and just ends up with the population fighting each other.
Extreme right wing conspiracy nut jobs can feck off just like the extreme left.

I have no issues with dealing with China they are a large market and exports increased under National.
Yes a large number supported the Covid measures which illustrates how easily the majority are led, it always puzzled me how Hitler managed to influence Nazi Germany, after seeing the masses fall for Jacinda’s propaganda I now see how he did it, her influence and control of the media was carried out by bribery.
The gang issue has been a problem for more than 20 years, the last few it’s got much worse, the current government is soft on crime.
I’ve never seen much racism in NZ apart from recently with apartheid policies implemented by Government.
Water is an issue in some areas, I don’t see the wholesale theft of council assets, or control by central government helping.

I trap possums and pluck them now, skins really went "out" and the fur did too, 'we would have gotten away with it if it weren't for those pesky' anti-animal-activists

Dalgety, that name is long gone now, but I can still get a good price for fur if I sell at the right time. Helps keep the critters in check

Course i forget the trend thats been for years, for sometime (in the fashion industry and elswhere i guess ) its been 'mink' coats and davy crocket hats :sneaky: ..........but made of polyester

Its says " Possum a huge problem here ,as are rabbits plus there's no foxes or myxomatosis . "

Im fairly certain though not recorded that a met a Helicopter pilot in a Queenstown pub that helped muster stock or shoot goats or something  and maybe to do with Cecil Peak Station which is mentioned and recorded as being 74,000 acres (at the time) .
