Yeh, tried shifting angle of small plastic packers nearest knife but no different, it’s the side furtherest from knife that’s badly packed. 940 has 2 big packers and 1 small pair of plastic ones
When you have a fully formed/knotted bale in the chamber stop and go round aft of the knotters. Grasp each twine and pull up to see if there is any significant difference in string length. If there is there could be unequal tension causes by adjustment or wear on the twine feed plate.

Depends on your budget the 570 or the wider pick up 575 you wont go wrong with them
they are still making them today but with up dated model numbers the design was out about 40 years ago and went on sale in Europe30 years ago.
And it has taken them until about 7 years ago to put the extension on to the bale chamber to make it longer that has really sorted the the bale shape out like they did 60 years with bigger chamber balers 78 / 286 / 386 / they were made with nearly a two bale length chamber.

As stated 575 is best baler NO banana bales, try and get one after 1991 as product improvements were made all round , when going good one would need a fast walk to keep up but to make the most you would need a hyd driven accumulator although if you have big fields and don't stop too often an ordinary one will be ok, the 575 was sold as a contractor machine so make sure it's not worn out. genuine spares are not cheap and pattern parts are available but some of those leave a lot to be desired.

My 940 keeps pumping out banana bales, does anyone have a solution? Thinking of changing it for a JD456a, are they any good
Used to run NH 276 back in the 70s. Was a great machine behind a IH 574. Never had the banana bales as I knew how to adjust the cross feeder. If to much hay making bale curves to left looking back from seat, move the inner feeder fork towards the chamber and outer away from chamber. Try 2 cm increments at a time

Unfortunately even N/H addmitted moving the feeder tines did not always work, as for the 276 fine when it was new or was not getting wqorn out the feeder was on a par with some of the 3series, crap, and if the end tine spring broke it would punch a few holes in the side tinwork which looked like an irate farmer had used a machine gun.

I've run a 1986, 456a for 20+ years doing between 6-8k a year.
Great baler and makes nice bales.
The later 459 came out in 1987 and a runs a few strokes more per minute and the pickup is 4" wider.
