Is anyone running a newholland hd or a case optum. If so how are you finding reliability, power and to drive? Is there much advantage over a long wheel base t7? Thanks

Tried an optum and to be honest we couldn’t see much benefit over a 240cvx in terms of power. It’s a big lump for road work on par with a magnum so not as nimble as the 240. They should be making a Puma 280cvx which boosts to 310hp when required in the same size frame as the current Puma.

But would it be fit to lift stuf the optum can without pullin itself to bits. Is the puma not kinda at its max power for its strength

Quite a few contractors here In Denmark have gone from the T80x0 tractors to the HD and says they pull well, there is no boost so 300+ hp availble at anytime and they use the 6,7l FPT engine that ranks among the best out there with much better fuel usage. Its also able to take a class 49 series wheel that helps putting the power to the ground. putting the new T8 Genesis cab on it really is a good contender is this segment of power. They come with a pricetag that match the T8 unfortunately

There's a couple very local to me and you don't see them using they're own tractors as much as they should be demo tractors are pretty regular. They were T8 beforehand and the same thing seemed to happen a lot then

T7 315s becoming commonplace round here. One big AD contractor has at least 6 of them now and they do a multitude of Jobs year round. They pull huge tri axle tankers, 18 ton silage trailers, 6000 litre sprayers/ liq spreaders, 7f ploughs, 8m power harrows, 16 row horsch drills. Powerful enough for the big jobs and compact enough for some smaller tasks.

I run a t7 315 that replaced a magnum 335
pulls the same effectively when on heavy work twin leg mole drainer
much better on the road lighter than the t8/magnum and more option on pto outputs
compared to a t7 260. The 315 can fit bigger wheels needed for the power 800/ 38
the main downsides to the t8/magnum is seat and cab size

reliability not had it that long although we did have a few adblue issues under the warrentry

Ad blue is a common issue I don't care what make you have. We have 2 identical tractors one has had 3 new exhaust/ad blue systems and the other has been perfect. It's a very frustrating fault when it occurs. We are looking something a little heavier than our long wheel t7 but still versatile enough to do some road work. There are a few good value magnums and t8's. I don't think you would use them to draw potatoes or grain.

Would the magnum not have a larger engine than the optum? If ther round thesame price id go magnum as youd have lot more tractor for your money and it be under lot less stress pullin same machines as the optum would

Got a NH T7 315HD very pleased over 3000 hrs on the clock work is either 9m butterfly mowers , 6m PH combi drill or subsoiler can be used for hauling but in truth would pick the 270. Only slight issue was fwd rev sensor .
Big question yes without doubt have another.

Got a 19 plate 315 with 1800 hrs on, does some ploughing with a 7f, and flatlifting with a 5 leg, but spends most of its time on a mounted 6m Claydon Hybrid. It’s had a new set of linkage cross shaft seals in the last 400 hrs

We ended up with another marmite tractor. An 828 and absolutely love it. Have a T7.220 due for change but the hd might be a little big as a replacement. Interesting you mentioned cross shaft seals GlennW. Our 220 runs a triple bed tiller occasionally and i noticed the cross shaft seals had gone again this spring having been replaced last year.

It hadn’t done a lot of heavy work till last year, as we had a T8. Within a couple of days of starting ploughing one side was leaking, it was replaced after we got worked up in November, then parked up for the winter, first day out drilling this spring, the other side started leaking 😕

I might be wrong but I think the optum engine is the same engine as the 240 puma just with bigger turbos? I know we can tune our 240 to 300 by derv doctor. They said they’ve done a fair few without issues.
