News & Blogs - a new dimension for The Farming Forum

We are delighted to announce the News & Blogs area that has been in development for a while is now live here on TFF

You can find the first two blogs by clicking the top left tab (marked in red). When in this area you can read the news and views of guest bloggers and contributors in order of most recent upload or by category by selecting the topic areas on the right hand side.

You can see the respective blogs in a relevant thread section in the usual forum area also.

I would like to welcome our first contributors, I'm sure members will make them feel welcome and do feel free to post comments as you would a normal thread.

If you would like to be a contributor in this area please PM TFF Editor. TFF Editor is a moderator function co-ordinated by @JP1

A big thank you to @admin for setting this facility up

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd add this post to the existing thread

I have promised @WillB that I would post a general explanation.

The News and Blogs area is an additional area designed to profile news and blogs by any member or other contributor and, in particular, longer in-depth articles.

TFF Editor is merely a publishing function of TFF manned by Jeremy, the volunteer mod, who posts his own opinions as JP1.

We have already been offered articles by members and non-members and I have also asked a few members if they would like to submit a blog, either regularly or on an ad-hoc basis. As in my original post on this thread, I would welcome all contributor offers. We are currently especially light with arable matters (not my knowledge area) although we have a couple of budding bloggers penning their first submissions as we speak.

Any blog or article is considered on it's merits and uploaded by TFF Editor with an author profile credit at the foot. The article is uploaded in the relevant section of the Forum, so all members can view it there. It is then "ported" to the News area with a feature main photo. Members can view the full article and comment as they would any thread posted by any member.

I would hasten to add that I am doing this as I have a passionate interest in driving interesting agricultural content for the Forum and for the benefit of the members. The articles are either accepted in their entirety or rejected, no TFF editing is done, merely publishing suitable material.

Some recent articles are Press Releases I have uploaded as I felt they might have been of interest to members e.g. the Landrover 25th Anniversary Discovery model launching at Geneva. I posted a Press Release and photo directly transcribed off the official JLR media centre website (you can still find it and the Defender Press Release there).

I feel I must emphasise that at all times there are no commercial considerations, in fact i will automatically reject any advertorial, it devalues some other magazines and has no place here on TFF.

I can happily report that blogs such as those by @blondeagadvisor and @Robert Forster have been well received and we have a commitment from Judy and Robert for regular contributions. You may well like to request future topics to them and the other bloggers.

Sadly, we were offered a Nuffield Scholarship report but the content with photos and tables was just too much to upload in to the news area despite my and @admin 's best efforts

We have some genuinely exciting blogs arriving shortly including ones by Global Ovine and EasyRam. Murray's sheep talk notes were popular on here last year.

I do work with TFF Twitter reviewing our own network of contacts and news derived from Twitter, Facebook and other sources, hence some of the random postings. George Monbiot was in Cumbria today and Tweeted this morning in advance a deliberately provocative article that he wrote for The Guardian last September. As a topical news item, I published it here. Ditto the Western Daily Press blog about Red Tractor. The whole appeal is to create interest and the alternative counter argument from our many and informed membership.

This place is very special to me as I know it is to many of you. Please take this as a way of explaining what the news area is and - importantly - what it isn't. I would welcome any comments or constructive criticism either publicly on here or via PM to @JP1 or @TFF Editor

Nothing is sacrosanct and I will work with the entire mod team to make this area evolve as you would like to see it

Thanks for reading and please do consider submitting blogs, articles, news snippets and photos
