Ironicaly general concensus in the farming community at the time was that the college was being well farmed & well run. The last proper agric to be Principal.I think the same happened at Kirkley tbh, principal selling colleges livestock?
Yeah you always beat us at rugby, some of those foresters were bloody massive. Still wince thinking about it 30 years ago?During the 90s Harry Martin who is a great chap was head of Agri at Newton Rigg and whatever management were up to he was doing a great job along with Chris Stables and all the other lecturers.
I remember competing against Kirkley Hall, Myascough, Askham Bryant and other Agri Colleges and Newton Rigg always seem to be at the head of there game.
Kirkley Hall in Northumberland 85 to 87 roughly ( memories going with everything else )[emoji1]Ha ha yep they certainly gave our teams good height. Cracking team there in the early ninety's .
Which College were you at Hally and what years were you there?
You were lucky to avoid me. I was offered the position of farm management lecturer in 85, but I turned it down when I found out I had to be a hall warden for the YTS students as well.Kirkley Hall in Northumberland 85 to 87 roughly ( memories going with everything else )[emoji1]

Massive shame if it can’t be saved.
Think it was 96-98 I was there. They had the likes of
Harry Martin (dairy)
Howard Hartley (sheep)
Bill Collinson
Dave Ross and John the barsteward up in the machinery shed.
Probably loads I’ve missed,
John Berry was farm manager.
Did farm duties in the pig beef and sheep sheds actually at Newton rigg before they knocked them down for lecture rooms, sports hall etc.
Milking was up at sewborrwens, where the 3 silage pits had just gone up.
Oh and The gin case had just opened.
Had a great time there and still kept in touch with many on my course before social media took off.
Gutted my kids probably won’t get to go, as it’s just up the road from us.
Ronnie Hattle, Steve Bragg, Ken mason, Dave Surtis, John Jones to add to your list of lecturers . There’s more I know though.

Grab a granny night in Gems on Wednesday after football?Oh yeah [emoji106] my memory ain’t what it used to be?
Maybe blues nightclub shutting down, followed by toppers have been the nails in the coffin for it [emoji848]. It’s not going to draw students if there’s no nightlife nearby ?
Don't know what will happen. Probably sold but yes John is still thereMusTaffers and the little chippy . Board and elbow, Gloucester and the sun inn down at Newton reigny. the Penrith pong from wildriggs. What will happen to lower beck side if the college closes? Is John rowlands still farming it?
