Suppose Askham Bryant will see it as only a positive if Newton Rigg closes . They will expect there student numbers to increase and gain numbers from there neighbouring county who will have to look elsewhere to further there education.

During the 90s Harry Martin who is a great chap was head of Agri at Newton Rigg and whatever management were up to he was doing a great job along with Chris Stables and all the other lecturers.
I remember competing against Kirkley Hall, Myascough, Askham Bryant and other Agri Colleges and Newton Rigg always seem to be at the head of there game.

You were lucky to avoid me. I was offered the position of farm management lecturer in 85, but I turned it down when I found out I had to be a hall warden for the YTS students as well.

Massive shame if it can’t be saved.
Think it was 96-98 I was there. They had the likes of
Harry Martin (dairy)
Howard Hartley (sheep)
Bill Collinson
Dave Ross and John the barsteward up in the machinery shed.
Probably loads I’ve missed,
John Berry was farm manager.
Did farm duties in the pig beef and sheep sheds actually at Newton rigg before they knocked them down for lecture rooms, sports hall etc.
Milking was up at sewborrwens, where the 3 silage pits had just gone up.
Oh and The gin case had just opened.

Had a great time there and still kept in touch with many on my course before social media took off.
Gutted my kids probably won’t get to go, as it’s just up the road from us.

Oh yeah [emoji106] my memory ain’t what it used to be?

Maybe blues nightclub shutting down, followed by toppers have been the nails in the coffin for it [emoji848]. It’s not going to draw students if there’s no nightlife nearby ?

Good chap John . 6 of us agri students lived in the bungalow for a term but moved back to the college in the second term as it was freezing in the house.
