we baled yesterday, dried well, smelt nice ( so I know I haven't got c19 ), looked some useful stuff, about 3 ton/acre, but dry. If we had left it, with this wind, would have been less. Tried the cows on it, and milk went down, past grazing.

we might have silage, but we are getting desperate for rain. Never thought I would say that, this time of year, This is a dry farm, but have never seen it so wet, nor seen it dry out so quick. The stream that goes through our farm, is at late summer flow, been full, up to a couple of weeks ago. But, that begs the question why ? As we do our spring work, the kale ground, has a pan, at 6/7 ins, going through patches of 'dead' grass, similar, so am wondering if the winter deluge, has simply run off, instead of soaking in, certainly plenty of evidence showing a surface pan, bloody annoying, because i'm anal about pans !!!!!!
what are you going to feed it to then ? or do you think it will improve in the bale ?

feed it back late summer, when cows are mid lactation, and we will be short of grass. No point in making the fresh cows eat it, you are only letting the next paddocks grow past them, do that, and you are losing milk.
