Sad news but it's a good, very well run show and if they don't think they can run then, it will only be a matter of time before all the other county shows come to the same inevitable conclusion.

Why do these shows bother to make such useless announcements? The facts are that the virus will still be around, and as official response is to hide(or try to) from it, nothing much will have changed, the reasons for cancelling this and next year will still be just as valid for 22 and many years to come.

Trouble is, all this does is emphasise just how bad things are. I know I have nothing to look forward to, I dont need telling all the time!

Maybe. As a cattle exhibitor , I see it as the Society and Holly the Livestock Co-Ordinator saying they've done their best and it's out of their hands for this year. I want them to keep networking with the prospective judges and the exhibitors to keep the wheels on the wagon and committing to breed classes for the future. I guess folks read messages in different ways

That does indeed seem likely, but how many of their exhibitors will turn up, in the show world continuity is important, miss one year, and people find somewhere else to go, and dont come back. For example, I have been told of several match ploughmen who have found other interests.

Show organisers are going to have to think outside the box a bit to fill trade stand spaces going forward. The CV has served to accelerate what was always going to happen; as the agricultural world shrinks in terms of people employed, there are just less potential visitors unless you focus on the public. That’s a good idea for the PR of farming but of limited use to many traders

I'm chairman of an event (Euston Rural Pastimes eustonruralpastimes.org.uk) and we plan to go ahead in some shape or form in 2021, even if it is little more than a sheepdog trial and a tea tent.
The art is going to be predicting the visitor numbers and gearing up the infrastructure costs (ring events, toilets, fencing etc) to that, so that we don't spend a fortune and get no visitors.
The other issue is that many of the brilliant volunteers that help put on the event (for charity) are retired and of a more vulnerable age group.
All challenges that many other events will be facing.
