I'm through with lambing hoggs. After several ok years, last year and this have been torture in the hoggs. Doesn't help that the timing for them is wrong, lamber finishes up to go and do her own sheep and kids and Mrs bob go back to school/work. I'm trying to lamb hoggs inside calve cows and lamb hill ewes outside. Bit of trial.:confused:

hopefully have a shed up. do it now while theres an 80% grant. would house a month/6 weeks before lambing but if weather looks good will lamb them outside. rather than lamb later i just want to leave a field or two clear from august to after lambing so i have some grass. as said a shed would be a big help as it would take pressure off from the crofts.

We'll be uping the numbers a few, maybe be using more cheviots tup on the blackies as impressed by the lambs this year, I fancy trying a roussin tup too, and maybe use fodder beet also

It would have to be an otherwise totally exceptional gimmer to get selected as a replacement from below this line.

Not changing much here might cut back a small bit as il be culling hard this summer anyway going to change the lay out of the sheds to more open plan style aswell selling the walk through feeders make feeding system more simple and put in racks for bales so its less labour and a one man job

If they are going worth the money I am on the hunt for a bundle of them for new shed. Why get out of them? Will you just feed in troughs on floor?

Neighbour has bought most of them as hes put mesh slats into an old hayshed, theyre only ones i made myself anyway, awkward enough yokes, getting rid as its a two man job feeding nuts or else sheep get squashed and hurt, had too many throw lambs because of hurts this year, will have 2 big batches of ewes down each side of the shed instead and feed one batch in a central yard whilst the next batch move into the other side to feed if ya get me, will stick a few bale racks down each side of the shed as well so that theyll always have forage and wont need to push in hay twice a day
Shed should hold more ewes this way aswell

Sending texel to factory and not replacing charly that kneeled over. Lamb outdoors again in April and put way more to lleyn rams. Tired of finding 2-5 yr old texel x ewes with swollen lamb heads sticking out, while my Lleyn ewe lambs, put back to the Lleyn ram are firing them out. Haven’t assisted any. Might pick up a easy lambing terminal but couldn’t be bothered if I don’t.
