NFU Brexit

I also hope @Forage Trader and others wanting a hard Brexit will place their business with British firms, ie- buy a Nissan or Honda , not an Audi or BMW.
I put my hand up to claim that I have both a British built Nissan and Honda. Not by accident either. They were shortlisted because they were British but bought because they are great vehicles, equal to or better than foreign rivals, at very competitive prices, though both top spec models. I wouldn't have just changed the Honda for another one if had the slightest doubt about it.
Yes, of course we all have other foreign vehicles and equipment, and only one of my tractors has any significant British content, but I like to think that I do my bit to support both local businesses and British manufacturing that employs British workers that buy my British food.

Absolute rubbish.

Cripple livestock farmers- errr millions of them worldwide who manage without magic EU membership?

Migrant workers for the NHS- errr, numerous other countries manage migrant workforces, again, without being the member of some mythical club.

Project fear.

Whens the last time you had an order of 500 lamb carcasses a week cancelled because the French buyer is making back up plans and making new links with suppliers in Spain. We had it 2 months ago and a few more customers have followed since. It is not project fear, it is reality.

How much of your farm produce do you export directly, how many wagons of produce do you export weekly? Do you have any experience in selling abroad? If you did you would soon realise it is not project fear but reality.

I don't think many appreciate just how serious things are.

This really is getting quite tiresome now. I can't speak for some other farmers that voted for Brexit, but it was an easy choice for me, after putting up with 25 years of EU meddling in vegtables/ organics/ free range eggs. The final insult being EU goal post moving aided by the collaborators (WAG), which resulted in small scale arable farmers losing subs, and finding it given to big dairy farmers instead.

Anyhoo, I don't think anyone, to quote the mighty intellect that is Gary Lineker " voted for this mess ", but we need to stick together now, and see it through. We can either push together for the best deal possible, or squabble like children calling each other " thick". Too much more childish nonsense, and the EU might just pay us to leave.

Lots of moaning about what NFU can do or not. They are dealing with politicians who have all sorts of pressures from other industries and lobbyists. Who else is going to represent farming and highlight the issues which urban voters do not understand.
As for other countries Trump has just injected $12 BILLION into US farming to cover losses.
Up here the NFUS negotiated a loan scheme for SFP of 90% last autumn which would not have seen your bank for another 7 months. Surprisingly most non-members were happy to take it too. How else would they have got it?
Not so long ago those dairy farmers on a spot contract were doing very well. When things got tight they were left to get what they could as there was no contract. Sheep trade the same in EU terms

Errrrr... the French buyer could have cancelled your order anyway. Business is business. Making links with new suppliers in Spain- what evidence have you got that this had anything to do with BREXIT? Contracts worth millions are routinely cancelled between various parties internationally, twas ever thus and that is raw capitalism for you I am afraid.

What makes you think the electorate should vote one particular way over such a serious issue merely because it makes your life easier? The CBI was in favour of the ERM and joining the Euro, look what jolly good ideas they turned out to be. Now they are boo-hooing about BREXIT and quite frankly, who cares? The EU and British government have been too pro-business for too long and have ridden roughshod over the concerns of average citizens. No longer. They all jeered and ridiculed the idea of the British people voting out, and the people fought back. The population are sick and fed up of the EU diktat and they are fed up of the British government using the EU as an excuse to do nothing. Now it's time for them to show they can stick the responsibility that comes with governance.

We are talking about the ability to control our own political class, our own borders, our own immigration systems, and our own judiciary. What makes you think the British public would ever hold your business or that of anyone else's over these fundamental pillars of democracy?

I agree entirely; people absolutely do need to get real and realise just how serious the Leave voters are.

I just watch the news with amusement. If the EU is such a great little club to be in they sure as hell are making a big song and dance about our insignificant little country leaving.

He quoted his reason, which was that he needed a back up to English lamb due to his fears regarding the outcome of the Brexit negotiations.

Do you have any idea what effect a hard Brexit will have on our beef and lamb exports? it will cripple thousands of livestock farmers, the prices will collapse. Our French and Italian meat customers have already started sourcing lamb from Spain.

The loss of migrant workers will cripple the NHS, you wont get young British people to clean sick and blood off the wards for £9 an hour.

Nor do I want to be paying double for my imported tractor and wagon parts due to customs.

With respect some farmers need to get past their mile long farm drives, open the gates and see the real world.
I'm afraid the bit in there about the loss of migrant workers crippling the nhs is such a load of rubbish it just makes me laugh. Having spent quite some time over the past 12 months in and out of has pita for various reasons I have yet to meet a European doctor or nurse but I have encountered one hell of a lot of wonderful African and Indian ones. Figure that one out!!

Pot and kettle, why should the concerns of farmers dictate how the country is run.no reason why we cant allow anyone we like to live and work here and why would parts double, tariffs on parts is 4.5% iirc
