NFU hustings

I agree but not trusting people to vote even if some don’t use their vote well or understand what they are voting for is a big and dangerous step away from democracy

Everyone has the right to be wrong - I mean people actualy voted for Corbyn for example ! But serious much as I don’t agree with his policies thank god he exists, challange and competition are healthy and make everyone improve

Trouble with the NFU is they have no competition and no democracy so lack that important need to improve or ever change

Completely agree!

If the TFF poll doesn’t match the outcome of NFU elections, it doesn’t mean either are right. :)

You do get a vote, as a member you are entitled to vote for your County Chairman and Council Delegate
maybe but I have no influence as to who is going to win this election
no county chairman or council delegate is going to take the blindest bit of notice if I tell them who I want them to vote for, sorry but they just won't, far more "important" folk to talk to and take notice of than me

you could say that about the GE
so who has enough knowledge to vote in that and who should we exclude
you don't even pay a sub to vote in the GE
I pay to belong to the NFU and get no vote

A bit off topic (and no offensive meant) but if you honestly don’t think you don’t “pay” to vote in the GE then that’s the funniest thing I’ve read in a while [emoji23]

Self selecting polls such as any on here and the one on FWi have very little credibility. Heck, users of the app on here can't even see the poll so are excluded.

The only people that matter are the 80 or 90 or more (no one seems to know) who get to vote in secret with no recourse to their members. In a weighted system. Possibly.

How do you know that they won't take any notice of you?
They cannot vote for every member in their counties individual wishes but they need to take a consensus of the majority, your opinion in such an event counts. Don't be so negative and do yourself down.

That's exactly the point. You have no idea at all if they have listened. You don't know how they have voted.

Many of the farmers I know do not read tff however many people from the uk look in

Face book has many members but many of the people I know do not look in the same with twitter

Polling companies thought they knew the result of the last 3 elections and the brexit vote they got if wrong when it came to the democratic vote

Until I got involved with the nfu through they Yfc in the 1990s my view was the subscription was not justified after a couple of years even after a few run ins with the nfu I learnt that the organisation is second to non when it comes to rural issues
In those days farming was more prosperous

Now with brexit and All it’s uncertainty farming needs to be organised and United more than at any time since 1947 or may be 1922 when the government cut all agricultural surport last time
Many youngster have realised this even through some older farmers believe they could do better on their own

I don’t need to attend commitee meetings to be entitled to my vote for uk government so no - nothing like the same
Well it is, because you can't really turn the news on and here what the NFU are doing, where as you can with government. How do you know what the NFU are aiming to achieve or achieving without going to the meetings and showing an interest?

I'm not saying it's perfect, but I can't see what complaining on an Internet forum will do? Has TFF ever lobbied government? How do you expect things will go if the NFU wasn't there?

There are many ways to communicate these days (as you are demonstrating right now !)

TFF does not and never has claimed to represent anyone and is not and has no ambition to be any kind of lobbying organisation. It is no more than a (very good and very big) communications platform for farmers

Yes there are, but I'd be a little concerned if Gove came out with a new policy that he'd read on the internet.

Didn’t a lot of people pay their £4 to get Corbyn as leader just for sh1ts and giggles?
