A David Handley type who can kick some ar#e . Uk farmers need to learn a thing or two from the french farmers, block a few roads and burn some tyres around whitehall.
Is David Handley still farming?
Whats does he do at the moment apart from write a newspaper article every once in a while? Not seen him doing a lot lately?

I am not so sure about this talk of Blair. He is completely untrustworthy. People like to think they can trust the food they eat. Do farmers really want to be represented by a short term confidence trickster?

This was part of the point- again, like him or loathe him, but Blair’s own party have elected a leader who’s the exact opposite of him- a guy who’s spent an entire political career avoiding sound bytes, and came to leadership of his party, through sticking to his principles- many of which are very unpalatable to the vast majority of the population. Perhaps the time for style over substance was 1998, not 2018....

New to this Forum. Good evening. Guy Smith is first rate and a very safe pair of hands, especially at this important moment for British Agriculture. Guy is a man in whom I would have every confidence when it comes to having to talk to politicians of all persuasions. Bearing in mind it is enshrined in NFU policy, that they are A POLITICAL. If the NFU are seen to favor one or other side of the isle during BREXIT and beyond, they will find they have a very hard row to hoe, when it comes to subsidies and how they are distributed. Bearing in mind they will be made up exclusively from UK tax payers pockets. The key to success is not for the NFU to argue or question any politician as to how they are going to allocate money. Leave that to the Brethren in the House of Commons. Not that they will know best but the NFU must not on any account try and dictate terms. That way the politicians of any persuasion will be prepared to do business. I remind folk that the best Minister of Agriculture was Fred Peart (labour) if one did not argue with him one got what one wanted.

So if TFF is typical of how most farmers would vote and the poll has 2/3rds supporting Guy, and Minette is elected as President doesn’t that suggest that the NFU is totally out of touch with grass roots farming?

Guy has a profile on here Minette hasn't

Many grass roots farmers don't use social media

This poll is a snapshot imho but tff in no way represents the majority of farmers the same as vegans dont represent the average consumer

the result of the vote on here is not surprising as Guy is a regular on here he is going to win the vote on here because most of use will never have met Minnette

If the chair and delegate are meant to vote the way the majority of "their" members want the then result would be the same if they gave all NFU members a vote
so what are they frightened of :scratchhead::whistle:

Because thats not what the rules say.

Its simple.
Votes are weighted in membership per county.

How do the CLA and TFA elect their office holders?

I wish all the candidates good luck today.
When the election is done lets see the new team buckle down and represent members during this challenging period.

Those that aren't members yet enjoy the benefits, now is the time to all work towards a sucess for British agriculture .

David Handley is what. And rightly so.

What we need is a little more transparency and accountability in those who do vote.

I voted for Guy as I think he is the best candidate and will do the best job.
If Minette was on here and Guy wasn’t I would still vote for him.

Have you asked them who they voted for?
Why, they could tell me anything and I wouldn't have any clue whether it was true. There has been comparison to MPs voting, all their votes are recorded so you can make an assessment of their record.

So you haven't asked them?
If you don't ask you don't know!
