Well I'm one year on from my move to F&M from NFU after decades of blind loyalty

Still happy I did the right thing, can't fault F&M so far and 20k better off for it already !

I'm going to get quotes from NFU F&M and Pace Ward this year.
Will be interested to see if the NFU have (significantly) sharpened their pencil in the last 12 months
Have you made a claim yet , bet you will eat your words when you do, life is to short to be playing with messers

The NFU did a LOT of messing in recent years, their loss adjusters all but called me a liar on more than one occasion, not really a great way to treat loyal customers IMO

they are all the same these days IMO - its their job to minimise claims so you might as well just buy the cheapest

sorry but the NFU paid out for my burnt load of straw return of post, the poor guy who owns the lorry who is insured with low life scum who mascaraed as insurance, well I will be sup prised if he gets a penny

there is new business discount and there is halving your premium !

If I can save that kind of money becoming someone's new business I will move every year. Zero loyalty from me now, I will just go with cheapest quote every year

That's exactly what i've done for the past 5 years. Premium has fallen every year.

Someone told me that insurers don't like those who hop from one to another, but I haven't found it a problem so far. Rarely make any huge claims though which probably helps.

They love to spread the myth that all other insurance co's don't pay up but frankly thats rubbish, none of them pay anything more than they are legally obliged to in my recent experience

They USED to be bloody good and maybe a cut above but not on recent performance i'm afraid

spent 9 months arguing over a fire on a dryer and paid out way less than we could replace machine for ultimately

tried to find a problem with a accident when my wife backed one of our cars into another of or cars ! - there was no one else to blame and should have been exceptional straight forward. In the end I gave up with them and just paid for the damage myself, I was sick of wasting my time with their moronic loss adjuster

replaced a lost diamond on a ring with one half the size / quality and thought this would be acceptable - insistent on using their "own" repair service

spent months agreeing the value of a claim on my house basement when it flooded despite receipts etc a few years ago, despite pts and receipts. They seemed to have no issue paying the rip off company that were charging them an extortionate daily rate fpr dehumidifiers etc however way beyond when they were needed

They've lost their way a lot recently. Gone too mainstream which has meant service has suffered. They've gone a bit like Countrywide!

Can you get quotes from different NFU branches? Are you allowed to join a different group as well? We are right on the branch area border and it would be nice to join a more proactive branch with a few more members under the age of 70!

We are midway between two and did exactly that.

My renewal date is mid December

I am awaiting the renewal quote from my incumbent broker and then I will post. I have been with the same broker and insurance company for the past two years having moved from NFU Mutual

I thought it right I should get quotes after two years. The Mutual local office actually rang to ask if they could quote this year; although it took two reminders closer to the date to get them to quote

I had asked F&M, NFU Mutual and incumbent to quote. I saw on another thread about Ritesure. I am impressed by their agent Cameron based in Gloucestershire

"Ritesure is a trading title of FUW Insurance Services Ltd, who are one of the UK’s leading independent agricultural and commercial insurance brokers."

So I will report back with findings shortly

Farm ; public liability and other perils
Motor; Defender, tractor and trailers
House building, contents and personal belongings away from home

So an update.

NFU Mutual asked to quote. I asked my incumbent broker to quote. I asked Ritesure on the back of a suggestion in another thread. I also had a quote from another local broker and one from Farmers and Mercantile.

The most attentive response came from the two insurance proposers with the lowest premiums

Ritesure followed by Farmers & Mercantile. They were both very close.

My existing insurer was 36% more expensive than Ritesure after two years with them

The NFU Mutual was 63% more expensive

Farmers & Mercantile were 10% more expensive but if Ritesure had not offered such attentive and personal service, I would have gone with F&M as I felt comfortable with their assistance and insight.

That's a huge variation. I conduct my insurance with two providers, NFU Mutual and Cornish Mutual. I have never experienced differences at those levels neither have I had high annual increases that some here have had.
I am also involved with another company that tenders regularly for insurance through a Broker; that company has remained with NFUm for over 10 years.
It is often challenging to ensure you are comparing truly like for like cover with insurance quotes.
@JP1 are you sure ALL levels of cover are the same in your quotes?
