It is often challenging to ensure you are comparing truly like for like cover with insurance quotes.
@JP1 are you sure ALL levels of cover are the same in your quotes?
Very true.

I haven't sought any. I have been with them since the late eighties. Given the excellent service that I have had, and the fact that their office is close by, I have not felt the need to look elseware.
I don't doubt that cheaper cover is available, but you get what you pay for.
Yes. The % 's can appear marked but remember a motor policy and only a small business can cause that variation. NFU Mutual were a bit too high on house buildings insurance and the rest was due to the motors. The Ritesure agent diligently sought to underwrite on the actual NCD achieved on a second car I had for half of last year. All parties had the same opportunities to discussThat's a huge variation. I conduct my insurance with two providers, NFU Mutual and Cornish Mutual. I have never experienced differences at those levels neither have I had high annual increases that some here have had.
I am also involved with another company that tenders regularly for insurance through a Broker; that company has remained with NFUm for over 10 years.

Can't comment on motors. I've never had a quote from NFUm for that as I do a fleet policy with CMA. NFUm never used to offer fleet policies, not sure if that has changed now though.
Does it have to be local?Anyone recommend a good agricultural insurance broker in the south coast central area
Mother signed up to a 5 year deal with the NFU, I absolutely cannot see the benefit, they are just so fecking expensive, way out on everything. I suppose they'll pay out fairly, but the 5 year agreement is a waste of time IMO
5 year agreement counts for nothing.
My renewal date is mid December
I am awaiting the renewal quote from my incumbent broker and then I will post. I have been with the same broker and insurance company for the past two years having moved from NFU Mutual
I thought it right I should get quotes after two years. The Mutual local office actually rang to ask if they could quote this year; although it took two reminders closer to the date to get them to quote
I had asked F&M, NFU Mutual and incumbent to quote. I saw on another thread about Ritesure. I am impressed by their agent Cameron based in Gloucestershire
"Ritesure is a trading title of FUW Insurance Services Ltd, who are one of the UK’s leading independent agricultural and commercial insurance brokers."
So I will report back with findings shortly
Farm ; public liability and other perils
Motor; Defender, tractor and trailers
House building, contents and personal belongings away from home
I had house insurance for years with NFU Mutual. It got expensive, so I questioned how much the contents were insured for, and had the answer "oh, we dropped contents a couple of years ago to save you money". This did not show on the renewal document. Thank goodness I did not have a claim during that time!

well I told my brother the story about the NFU being expensive, and he was like you. Quality of service, ease of dealing with claims, no need to move.......until he got some quotes in to compare!!!! Now he's going nuts at the thousands he has wasted over the years. I eventually went with a company who were 60% cheaper than my NFU quote, so it seems to stack up against what others have found.
Changed land rover to Avila 4 years ago, trailer overtook me and pushed me into ditch. aviva were good and paid me after excess £300 less than i'd bought it for 4 years earlier. unfortunately they would not cover the trailers so I lost out about 6.5 times what i'd saved on the premium. went back to nfu as difference not worth the risk. have farm policy with them but not car, house or tractors at present but am told new farm select policy (I think) may be better for me next renewal and cover more. I always check every year.
