Her role will be to lead on a broad policy portfolio covering a variety of rural business issues affecting union members, including rural crime, connectivity, crofting, transport, utilities and employment.

She will be responsible for service to the NFU Scotland Legal and Technical Committee and will play an important part in the achievement of NFU Scotland’s strategic priorities.

Montgomery graduated from SRUC Aberdeen this year after completing a BA (Hons) degree in Rural Business Management.

Prior to joining NFU Scotland she was working in the grain trade and has also worked extensively for a farm diversification project.

Looking at her new role within NFU Scotland, she said:

“I am delighted to be joining NFU Scotland. It is an extremely interesting and important time to be involved in Scottish agriculture, and I am looking forward to working closely with our members to help them make the most out of their businesses.”

Commenting on her appointment, head of policy team Gemma Cooper added: “Rhianna joins us at an exciting time and will be taking over a range of policy subjects within our legal and technical policy remit.

A key part of Rhianna’s role will be progressing issues such as digital connectivity, rural crime and crofting.

“Rhianna is an excellent addition to our talented policy team, and I am looking forward to working with her to develop her in her new role with NFU Scotland.”
