NFU Scotland recruits new national operations manager

Written by William Kellett from Agriland

James Buchanan joined NFU Scotland this week, taking on the newly created role of national operations manager.

He will be responsible for leading, managing, and co-ordinating the outputs of the regional team and group secretaries so that the visibility of the union is maximised, engagement with members is strong, and regional structures run smoothly.

Buchanan joins NFU Scotland from SAC Consulting, where he worked as an Agricultural Consultant and Office Manager with line management responsibilities.

The son of a farm manager, Buchanan brings with him a wealth of experience and agricultural knowledge having also worked in Scottish agriculture for over 20 years.

Looking at his new role within NFU Scotland, he commented:

The agricultural industry is preparing to go through a period of uncertainty and change. I am looking forward to working closely with the regional management team, branch secretaries, and NFU Scotland members to help navigate this.

“I am delighted to be able to use my experience to help the union and its members continue to move forwards towards a profitable and successful future.”

Commenting on James’s appointment, NFU Scotland chief executive officer Scott Walker said:

“It’s great to welcome James Buchanan to the NFU Scotland team as our new national operations manager.

“James has responsibility for developing our engagement strategy to ensure strong membership outreach and that regional structures operate effectively.

“He will also manage our 10 people strong regional team in their delivery of national membership activities, and work with them to ensure that these activities and that of our group secretary network are aligned to represent our members locally and to grow our membership.”
