Not a single kilo of agriculture produce from new trade arrangements has arrived on your shelves yet. But it will arrive. When it dose and gains critical mass, market forces will kick in.

Why the concern about arrives on our shelves @Ashtree?
You don’t give your location but I guess you don’t live in the UK so why are you so animated by Brexit and what is behind your support for the NFU and the Red Tractor protection racket?

Nothing to do with brexit, this has been going on since the start of Rt
Initially you got a premium for meeting assurance standards, then you didnt, it was instead a penalty for not meeting them. That's when it changed. I think its about a fiver a tonne you loose for not being a member of RT which adds up, this obviously is what is keeping them in business.

This Brown Tractor idea wouldn't be needed if there was a premium on Red Tractor but as there isn't we need a basic standard that sets the market price and a higher standard that pays a premium. That will be set by supply and demand, if there is a premium we'll have a decision to make on whether to join red tractor but if they can't provide a premium the customer obviously doesn't rate red tractor so they aren't needed.

For the first time in their existence they would have to justify their existence.

P.S. The Brexit vote was over 5 years ago, we moved on years ago so maybe it's time the EU countries did too.
We already have legal standards. Product of or produced in the UK is all that's required. Plus the shopper recognises the value.

Indeed. The EU has moved on. Period. Seems you lot on here have moved sideways, from blaming the EU, to blaming home grown bogey men, like NFU and RT.
Meanwhile Farage is leading by example from shifting his attention from blaming the EU to blaming one of the ALL TIME GREAT BRITISH INSTITUTIONS, the RNLI. Theres no depth to which that snake won’t plumb.
indeed, we have all moved on, or have we ? If you can remember, the rest of europe banned our beef, because of BSE, and the feeding of animal protien was banned, as you have relaxed that ban, if our custom officers, were as diligent as EU ones, none of your meat, would be allowed into the UK, to which, no doubt, there would be howls of protest.
I for one, would be perfectly happy to replace EU beef, with Australian, which reminds me, the relaxation of feeding animal protien, was to enable EU meat producers to compete with cheap foreign imports. As with meats, EU wine exports will have to compete against new country wines, which will be 13p a bottle cheaper, than EU, because of tariffs. That might not seem a lot, but the volumes are huge, and the s/mkts will certainly use that difference. As things progress, it is becoming very obvious that the EU has an isolationist policy, to protect it's internal market, especially food stuffs, from which we have all been bound to, that mkt, does not operate at world prices, it is much higher, therefore EU product, will have to compete with those prices, and that will hurt.
As to how UK farmers will cope, remains to be seen, having a relation, close to the decision makers, the expectation is that home grown foodstuffs, will replace EU product, with imported product lowering the overall price. As we live in a democracy, we have to follow the course of the majority, whether we like it, or not, and for certain, farming is in line, for some dramatic changes, and the NFU, and RT, perhaps have not realised that yet. Whatever the outcome, we will have to cope with it, and i'm not sure, our leaders actually know what will happen, but it is a shame, that the constant acrimony, that exists between us, esp in NI and fishing, cannot be smoothed over, we have to live next door, and, yes, we have left the block, but trade between us, is immense, and every trade deal done, elsewhere, will include ag product, majority of which, is below UK/EU price, and every deal, will reduce the UK market share for EU product.

@Ashtree a lot of us voted for brexit based on a much wider view than the farm gate, where you seem to think our interests end. The country is and will be freer and independently much more democratic instead of being ruled from Brussels by a bunch of unelected egomaniacs.

Yep, take back control…… and hand it to Cummins…. then to Princess Nutnuts.

None of which was particularly hard to see coming either. :(

Plus if the shopper knew that imports undergo all those tests which Jim states are way above RT requirements then they would demand imports. They are not in the least bit interested if my moisture meter works or that I've written down how many insects I found hiding around my shed.
In fact if they knew we had to spend our time fooling around with this nonsense then they would boycott RT.

A TV programme on this would finish RT in one hit and we could close these threads and get on with the job.

I think the phrase "democratic deficit" was a lot more important to people than the media let on. Brexit was tried to be framed all about racism or jingoism etc but it wasn't really. People tend to want their politicians to be accountable and felt that EU was more divorced from that and was increasingly so.

There are negatives to Brexit but there are positives too. But now more than ever in the covid world and what comes after it is pretty important to keep a handle of beauracracy and keeping people accountable. That was the sentiment around much of Brexit.

Same is true of RT. They are accountable via premiums but they don't generate them so need to go

In the last set of NFU accounts (pre Brexit). The auditors report identified BREXIT as the biggest single threat to the NFU’s future - not wonder they decided most framers wanted to remain !

Turkeys do not vote for Christmas

Brexit plus Red Tractor will be the end of them if they do not start actually representing what the majority want ………. Or at least holding OMOV polls to find out what the majority want
