NH T7.225 or T7.230

Thanks for the replies so far, pretty much what I had expected really!!! Most of the work we have probably only needs about 160hp, so that is why I am even considering the SWB. Plus, it's probably about 1.5 tons lighter than the LWB equivalent.
I'm wondering would a LWB be a bit clumsy on the sprayer? It's only a 2800L with 21 metre booms, although that will likely be changed to a slightly bigger sprayer in a few years.
A neighbour of mine had a puma 175cvx for a short while but did not like it. It was one of those special edition jobs with the venom paint, so came on large tyres. One complaint was that the steering lock was very poor and the other that he thought it was a little gutless. In fairness, he didn't really know how to set it up properly so it may not have been the tractors fault, but I prefer to be well on top power wise so that would concern me with regards to the SWB and possibly a more power sapping 2 range transmission.
I would much prefer the LWB, I just want to be sure that it won't be too clumsy for some of the jobs it will be doing.
I should add that it will be a lowish hour used machine we will be looking for if that makes any difference.
Thanks!!!

Got a lwb on a trailer sprayer and the steering lock is fine. I’m running on 600 front and 650 back all year round.

That's the one I'm most concerned about, how it would behave on the sprayer. Its good to hear that you have no problem with it.

My new one on 600 fronts has way more lock than the last one on 540 fronts. Perhaps they have been set further out as the lock is superb and the old one used to knock the front linkage buttons off with the treads.

Just ordered a 225, fancied a look at a 230 but our salesman said they are pretty gutless compared to a 225 as they are carrying over 1.5 tonne extra with only 5hp more, he said a 245 is a better bet but was too much horsepower for us really. Guess the larger frame would benefit you on heavy cultivation gear though.

Thanks for all the advice so far lads! My head says a SWB is plenty, my heart wants a LWB!!!
Just a bit of an aside, does anyone know at what speeds both the SWB and LWB shift ranges? Can they be locked in a particular range to prevent them constantly changing up and down when the target speed is close to a change point?
Thanks!!!

You can Definately lock them in range 1, I’m not sure about the rest...

The SWB will lock in 1st range and go a max of 12.4kph.

our 210 vario pulls 4m combi and front press no bother. Hell of a tractor imo.

So if I was pulling a Vaderstad Rapid at say 15K in a field, and slowing to 8K to turn around, would it change between the ranges each time I reached the end of the field? I assume it can't just stay in high range all the time, saving changing down to the lower range, particularly in this case as there is no load on the tractor when turning on the headlands?
Sorry for these questions, I'm just curious would this kind of operations cause a lot of wear on synchros.

if any of your work benefits from the lwb (heavy towing, draft work, working on slopes) go for it. the running cost difference will be negligible. also gives the option in the future to remap up to t7.270 equivalent without much risk of breaking anything. a 225 would be already on its safe limit backend wise. lot more metal for the money with the lwb imo.

It took long enough, but we have eventually bought a tractor. Haven't even collected it yet!! It's a 2015 T7.235 autocommand. It's on smaller tyres than I would have liked ( 580's) and does not have a front linkage, but the condition and low hours ( 3350, checked with a dealers laptop) swung it for me. It has the intelliview 4 screen, Isobus, exhaust brake, power beyond and air brakes. Drives and looks like new. Thanks to everyone for their advice, I'm delighted we went for a LWB in the end.
I have a question regarding a new front linkage. I haven't looked into it yet, but can the linkage new holland fit from the factory be retrofitted, or is it a different tombstone? Local garages seem to all fit Zuidberg links, but the pics on their website shows it looking quite bulky when the links are folded. Any other advice appreciated.
Thanks!!!!

Russell’s NH dealer import and install the Degenhart linkages for CNH tractors - I can’t comment on them as we’ve only ever had the factory linkages but they look to integrate well for a retrofit item.

on a side note our first foray back to NH was a T7.235 AC and it was a really good tractor for us - I hope yours is too 👍

You won’t regret going LWB we have a 270 now as well as a 210 difference is night and day 270 just plays with stuff that the 210 has to work hard to pull.

physically there’s not a lot in it wise as 210 is on 650/42s but put them side by side and the amount of extra beef in the 270 axles linkage etc is very noticable
