NH T7 auto command and power command

I've recently just got a job on a arable farm where I'll start in the spring. They run all New Holland T7 tractors all power command but 2 are auto command, the only NH I've driven is a tm135 and it wasn't for long anyway when I'll get there they'll show me how it all works, hitch etc but I would like a little overview before I get there so at least I know somethings, is the hitch and linkage easy to use? PTO? Putting into float? Gears? Thanks seem like stupid questions and I'll get shown it all anyway but would like a little idea as only evert driven John Deere, claas and valtra

I'm an idiot and I can drive one, so a bright young lad like you will be fine. Hare faster, tortoise slower.

Very much a jump on and drive tractor. Had a joiner carting silage with ours this year.

Power command will just be on the two buttons hare and tortoise to go up and down the gears, using the clutch only to pull off, very easy.

And then auto command, to put it simply, you will set a max speed on the scrolly part of the joystick and put your foot down to go, not using your clutch at all, even easier!

Obviously you select forward and reverse with the shuttle beside the steering wheel. You will pick it up in 10 minutes, both are dead easy to use. Lot easier to sit in it for 10 minutes driving it learning than it is reading instructions off here.

It's all easy to use. The only difference between auto and power command is the gearing. Power command is up/down gears and auto command is the further forward you push the stick or push the pedal down, the faster you go! Not sure if you can set min/max speed settings like you can on the Case.

Auto Command is the simplest tractor on the market, my dad picked it up in minutes and loves it. Just make sure someone shows you the special orange knob behind your right elbow, it is very important.

when using the auto button the rev setting for the gear change is set when you use the button

ie if you are at 1800 rpm when using the button it then changes at 1800 rpm in auto
I find that with a full load set the auto when 1950 to 2000 rpm when with no load 1700 to1750 is a better change point

If you've ever driven that puma in your avatar it won't be far off identical to that, the auto command is slightly different controls to cvx, but power shifts are the same.

I don't drive a nh very often but when I move them round the yard the no neutral on the shuttle catches me out, need to press the button on the end of the shuttle lever a right dull idea, rumer has it a local dealer had a tractor go thru a wall into the office cos it caught the fitter out, thinking about it it was the hire power command tractor, not the autocommand

linkage and pickup hitch is easy, the draft, height, speed of travel knobs are under your right armrest. pickup hitch lever is behind your right arm, you cant miss it. and the pto is a simple knob that you pull.
if you get an early finish one night ask your boss if he can show you or let you calibrate the gearbox, easy to do, its all in the handbook and will make it nicer to drive and save wear on the gearbox.
also get laid under it and grease up the front axle when you can, aswell as backend, all easy to access and want a little squirt often i find

It's the same on the puma so I'm used to it but yeah it's not the best

Thanks a lot, yeah I will ask. I will definitely be greasing it often it's a habit now

I think the latest models are better but on auto command just be aware of a annoying delay between selecting forward/reverse [and vice versa] especially on hills as you can end up hitting the hedge/wall before drive picks up again.

Never knew that! Every days a school day.

Hi folks. Range command user here. Looking at the idea of buying a well used autocommand, probably over the phone. Is there anything much to worry about? I'm told that they are probably cheaper to fix than range and power command. And my gut says that they should be kinder to themselves and less prone to a rough driver than range or power. But that might be nonsense.

All comments welcome.

After owning an Automand tractor a "well used" example as you put it would not be something I would buy over the phone, I would want to feel it for internal range change and direction change for myself.
