Not really there has always been those within unionism that have advocated the need for unionism to explain it self to wider world and greater engagement with those who regard the Provisional movement with extreme distaste.
FG were usually considered the "more" (relatively speaking" unionist friendly party in the ROI with the demise of the PDs and M McDowell etc.

Dr. Graham Gudgin, bless his little heart. I remember reading an article he wrote at the height of the fuss over the Irish border, and the potential to move it into the Irish Sea. He wrote at that time that there was absolutely no need for unionists to fret about this possibility, as the DUP were power brokers in Westminster and had “clever seasoned negotiators”. Well bless my soul, but didn’t they deliver ....

If it had not been for the obsession with not having ANY Trade checks at our frontier with ROI. Those who cynically used the Belfast agreement and the threat of violence are to blame. Those who voted to Leave the EU are not

Bless ‘em, but they not for the first time, handsomely overestimated NI as a true part of the union! They equally overestimated their own capacity to play “premiership” level politics.
The raw truth is that the British political establishment in general, and the Tory establishment in particular, view NI as a dreary backwater, more trouble than it’s worth. Far more.
Raising NI’s political “value” within the Union, is the job of unionists and moreover the DUP as they are by far the biggest party.
I can’t think of one of them who I would send out to bat for me if I was a unionist. They are far more likely to rant on about Dublin airport stealing business, or a fat king on a white horse, than the core basic harsh reality, that their 100 year gerrymandered, disenfranchisement of catholic’s type politics, is finished for ever and ever.
Still, the faithful will line up meekly, and vote for Sammy, Ian, Gregory, ......

I wonder if someone posted a thread to celebrate the centenary of the Republic of Ireland gaining independence from the UK, would there be anyone so bitter and mean spirited to make it their business to run the ROI down in the way you do to NI? Get a grip of yourself man. You really let yourself down a bagful, and confirm the notion that unionists would be treated like dirt under your command. Shame on you. Away hame.

As a unionist I could almost work with a new Ireland where it’s not us joining them but a completely new country constitution police flag etc but the thought of us joining bitter folk like ash fills me with dread
